Who were Fred and Helen Nitta

Fred and Helen Nitta of Watsonville, CA were very active in the YBA before World War II and the Dharma School (then Sunday School) of the Watsonville Buddhist Temple. One mimeographed newsletter from the late 1930s notes that they were one of the organizers of a YBA Halloween Dance at Watsonville. In addition, Fred was active in what would eventually be known as the Federation of Dharma School Teacher Leagues (FDSTL) throughout his adult life. This scholarship was established through their generous donation to commemorate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in 1964. This award was estblished to honor and give recognition to an outstanding Buddhist youth.
