Industrial Visit to Puducherry Power Corporation Limited (PPCL), Karaikal.

On 11th April 2023 (Tuesday), Third-year B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, NIT Puducherry, visited the Puducherry Power Corporation Limited (PPCL), T.R Pattinam, Karaikal. Along with the students, Dr. Sendhil Kumar - Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr.Vadivukkarasan M - Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr.Somasundaram - Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering visited Puducherry Power Corporation Limited (PPCL) in Karaikal.

The collegiate club of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) in the National Institute of Technology Puducherry was inaugurated by Prof. T. Suthakar, Visiting Professor in the august presence of Director, Prof. K. Sankaranarayanasamy and Registrar, Dr. S. Sundaravarathan on 12th October 2022 (Wednesday). Director, Prof. K. Sankaranarayanasamy, said this club will be a place for the students to put the ‘Theory into Practice. The inaugural ceremony also witnessed a keynote speech, by Prof. T. Suthakar on the topic ‘Automotive Engineering – an overview’ which covered the basic elements of automobiles along with their historical development. He also gave an insight into modern automotive systems such as brakes, suspension, steering, and transmission and a glimpse into the latest electric vehicle technology.

From the mechanical department two faculty members and four students visited ONGC Kuthalam GCS campus on 20th December 2022 to have a technical discussion and knowledge transfer on oil mechanical systems used at the facility in order to explore the possibilities of IOT implementation and Digital Twin creation. The team is currently working on industry 4.0 digitization to improve efficiency using IOT (internet of things with smart sensors) and AR (Augmented Reality).
