The orifice pressure tapping is linked to one of the limbs of the U-Tube manometer on the panel. An energy meter is used to record the power supplied to the motor and, as a result, the work required for compression. The equipment calculates volumetric and isothermal efficiency at various discharge pressures.

The redwood viscometer is made up of a vertical cylindrical oil cup with an orifice in the base. A ball can be used to close the orifice.
