The world has digitized itself and become accessible from any nook or cranny of the globe. However, teaching and learning were still considered analogue players in a largely digital world. However, the advent of an epic war for humans against an invisible and a virus of size in nano-scale which has created a standstill in the whole globe was on the cards, when in January this year the first reports of Covid-19 were reported from a South-East Asian country. The next few months saw the rapid spread of the microbe like a forest fire, bringing most first- world nations to their knees and who world to a grinding halt. Under the ominous shadow of the contagion, there is a big question on the existence of human lives.

In India, to restrict pandemic’s spread, the Indian government has declared a complete lockdown. This meant that a nation of the second highest population in the world would remain locked inside their homes and the streets would be empty. This also meant that education system would be affected immensely as all academic institutions were to remain closed. However, if there is a will there is a way and Narula Institute of Technology, one of the flagship institutions under JIS Group have created an exemplary instance wherein all forms of education is being imparted to students on a digital platform. As an Institute where technology, innovation and creativity is encouraged, we took complete advantage of the vast plethora of technical solutions made available to us via the Internet.

The accomplished teachers and resourceful staff of the Institute have been continuing the education of our students with minimum impediments. We have applied various different internet resources to transfer lessons, projects and assignments to the students, conduct tests and even take full fledged Theory and lab classes. Some apps we using are You Tube, Google Classroom, Zoom Meetings App, Google Doc, G-mail etc. Social media apps such as Whats-app and Facebook are becoming very handy tools in rapidly dispersing information among students. Facebook in general has also been a platform for NiT to celebrate its many achievements in digital learning field. It is also immensely helpful in spreading awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for quarantine and self isolation at large.

Students are being encouraged to perform digital project work from their homes and they have exhibited immense enthusiasm in this regard. One of the most innovative digital learning creations has been the Narula News, promoting and showcasing the Digital Learning system. It highlights bulletins on the various innovative creations by the students, such as the making of IOT based Home automation Math Robo or the Self Sanitized Gloves.

We at NiT , under guidance of our hon’bl Principal Dr. M R Kanjilal and honorable Registrar, Mrs Nidhi Singh, faced the critical challenge thrown at us by the pandemic and we can proudly say we are #down_but_not_out. Incidentally we have reached the masses with our Digital Learning initiatives by popularizing our trademark hashtags, ghar_pe_padhai_corona_se_ladai on social media that has fetched quite the following among youngsters. Our spirit is indomitable, our courage comes from the very foundation if this great institute and together with technology to our aid, we are going to see this through.
