Rcpp with Dirk Eddelbuettel

National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) Academic Affiliates Committee held a tutorial on "Rcpp (R and C++) with Dirk Eddelbuettel" on Friday, March 25, 2022, 1- 2 pm ET.

This talk gently introduced going to compiled code without fear thanks to sophisticated tooling which makes otherwise complicated and sometimes feared steps of compiling, linking, loading and launching compiled code a relative breeze that is accessible directly from R---by leveraging the excellent and robust build toolchain supplied by R. Dirk also highlighted key aspects, and motivations, of using Rcpp---and also warned of a few common pitfalls.  Pointers for further study as well as to additional examples offered an opportunity for self-study following this introductory talk.

Toolkit for the Modern Statistician

The NISS Graduate Student Network hosted an exciting virtual meet-up on computing tools that would be valuable to statistics or biostatistics Ph.D. students! In fact, understanding and being able to use these tools might be of value for faculty members as well! This overview included tools such as R shiny and tidyverse among others.

The goal of this session was to introduce an overview of these tools and make the students aware of the benefits of investing time to learn more about them.

Mine Cetinkaya-Rundel, (University of Edinburgh, Duke University, RStudio), gave an overview and then for the remainder of the session the floor was open for Questions & Answers.

Analisa Flores, (University of California, Riverside), moderated the event.

The event took place over Zoom on Thursday, March 30th, 2021, 3 - 4 pm (EST). Find out more information here.
