The National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRD&PR an autonomous organization under the Union Ministry of Rural Development, is a premier national center of excellence in rural development and Panchayati Raj Recognized internationally as one of the UN ESCAP Centers of Excellence, it builds capacities of rural development functionaries, elected representatives of PRIs, bankers, NGOs and other stakeholders through inter related activities of training, research and consultancy The Institute is located in the historic city of Hyderabad in Telangana state The NIRD&PR celebrated its Golden Jubilee Year of establishment in 2008 In addition to the main campus at Hyderabad, The Institute has North Eastern Regional Centre at Guwahati, Assam to meet the NE regional needs.

As a premier training institute under the aegis of Ministries of Rural Development Panchayati Raj, NIRD&PR initially focused on capacity building of professionals and functionaries in the sector However, with the growing demand for youth participation in development initiatives of the government, the Institute started its Post Graduation One year Diploma programme in 2008 The strong faculty base, impressive infrastructure and focus on practical aspects of rural development programmes in NIRD&PR has aided the development of a committed and competent cadre of Rural Development Management Professionals in the country.

The positive feedbacks received from past recruiters and the demand for a more comprehensive programme, led to the introduction of Two year AICTE approved full time residential programme PGDM(RM) in 2018 The flagship programme offers a range of courses that addresses key policy and management issues in rural development, providing students with core development and management insights and impart analytical skills for planning and managing Rural Development Programmes.
