Welcome to the Nimble Thimbles Quilt Club of

Johnson County, Franklin, Indiana

History

In 1988, seven women desired to use their passion of sewing to give back to Johnson County in the state of Indiana. This aspiration to help others continues to draw many sewing and quilting enthusiasts to the group today.

Affiliated with the Johnson County Extension Homemakers, the quilt guild encourages our future generation to embrace sewing as a form of self-expression. Through proceeds from the quilt show and quilt raffles, the club has donated sewing machines, sewing supplies, fabric, and cash donations to Johnson County’s high school Family and Consumer Science classes. Often times, these donations are used by the students to create items for Indiana's homeless and military--past and present.

Activities

Looking at the club’s monthly activities may make some dizzy, but the guild willingly undertakes each project with teamwork and fellowship. When the members see a need using our sewing talents, we try to accommodate. The following activities show a sample of the philanthropic projects the club completes each year:

  • Lap quilts for hospice centers
  • Lap quilts for Honor Flight Veterans
  • Quilts, scarves, and hats for the homeless
  • Quilts as housewarming gifts to Habitat for Humanity recipients
  • Weighted blankets for Autism
  • Prayer shawls for Indiana Donor Network
  • Book bags for First Step Preschoolers
  • Lung-shaped pillows used by lung transplant patients
  • Flannel blankets and gift bags for preemies of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Many other charity projects that come to the attention of the club
  • Assistance at the Johnson County Fair and Extension Homemaker's Craft Fairs
  • Educational talks of how quilts tell stories of our nation's history
