In this project, I embarked on a journey to curate a collection of digital media from various sources, focusing on the theme of "Urban Landscapes." The goal was to not only gather diverse forms of media but also to analyze their content, context, and the ethical implications of their use, while ensuring proper credit in line with their licensing agreements.
I explored urban photography on Unsplash, a platform known for high-quality, license-free images. I selected a stunning high-resolution photograph of a bustling cityscape at dusk, showcasing the interplay of urban architecture and street life. This image, titled "HD city wallpaper," was captured by photographer Max Bender and is available under the Unsplash License, allowing for free use with no attribution required, though credit is given here for ethical practice.
For the audio component, I chose a recording of ambient city sounds from FreeSound, an open-source audio library. The track, named "Ambience," is a 41-second clip that captures the raw audio of a street in London at night with several pedestrians moving around. It's licensed under CC BY 3.0, which requires attribution. Thus, credit goes to InspectorJ, the recorder of this captivating audio piece.

I sourced a time-lapse video from Vimeo, titled "Urban Tour Paris." This video artistically captures the dynamics urban Paris tour in 1 minute and 15 seconds. It was created by filmmaker Thomas Grove Carter and shared under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license, restricting commercial use and modifications. Proper credit and a link to the license are provided as part of ethical sharing practices.
I selected a captivating urban-themed GIF from Giphy titled "New York Life GIF" for the animation portion of the project. This GIF dynamically displays a city's transition from day to night, highlighting the hustle of urban life with moving vehicles and changing lights. It's an excellent representation of the constant energy in cityscapes. While the creator's details are not specified, Giphy is acknowledged for offering such expressive and engaging GIFs.

This project was an eye-opener regarding the vast array of digital media available and the importance of understanding the nuances of their use and sharing. I learned the significance of respecting copyrights and licenses, which is crucial in the ethical use of digital resources. Analyzing each piece of media provided a deeper appreciation of the artistic and technical skills involved in capturing and representing the essence of urban landscapes in digital forms.
