Research Assistants and interns: Familiarity with understanding research papers and programming mathematics functions.
U.G./B.Tech. at IITD: Typically open to guide projects combining AI and domain with focus on signals and systems. I will prioritize thesis projects (BTP), SURA, or startups for practical product oriented projects.
Current PG Students at IITD: If you are a PG student in IITD, please consult your advisor/HoD for possible research collaboration.
Post Docs: With focus on signal processing with optimization and AI/ML with expertise in one of domains such as wireless communication/IoT, radars, edge computing, biomedical signal processing, audio or image processing and robotics. Preference will be given to independent researchers with previous publication experience.
Ph.D. and M.Tech.: Please refer to ScAI, IITD site (home page) for the joining process. Relevance with undergraduate topics in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Mathematics and interest in wireless/healthcare/audio/robotics will be helpful.
M.Tech. students should aim to be "R&D ready", which requires you to understand conventional theoretical results in your field, be able to find and implement solutions to engineering problems and connect research with operations. Metaphorically, be the eyes (read papers) and ears (be active in your field). R&D rarely deals with theoretical uncertainties and hence, if enough effort is spent, one can guarantee some outcome.
Ph.D. goes a step further into research where even the basics may be unknown. You are now also required to be the brain (think for the field) and represent it. Starting out with a field closer to your advisor, you are expected to generate new knowledge and have more ownership of your projects. This takes time, typically upwards of 3-4 years. You need to be able to connect the dots and ask important questions in the field (Note, asking good questions requires you to understand previous questions and answers making the ability of M.Tech. as a prerequisite). Most importantly, Ph.D. is a philosophy degree, not just a technical one, and thus, you need to learn the art of the field. Unfortunately, very much like arts, the degree involves several subjective factors and immense uncertainty which are not known prior to the pursuit. As favourable outcomes cannot be guaranteed immediately, persistence is crucial for Ph.D., and so is for you to understand if this is the right path for you or not, typically within the first couple years.
