As a high school educator, I have taught level 1, 2, 3 and now Advanced Placement Visual Arts courses at North High. In my upper level classes, my goal is to have my students be vocal through their artwork. I lead many of my students in entering the Scholastics Art Competition. This leads to many scholarships but also state recognition for their hard work.
In 2024, I celebrated two students being selected as American Vision Nominees. Out of the Eastern state of Kansas, only five select pieces are chosen as American Vision Nominees. Two of my students, Amy Rojas and Lexie Zubia Contreras were selected as nominees. In 2025, I celebrated Lola Pando Ledesma winning the American Vision Award as well.
As a group, students in my classroom collected 35 awards in 2025, 39 awards from the Scholastics 2024, and 19 awards in 2023 from Scholastics within the Eastern State of Kansas. In 2023, 2024, and 2025 I was awarded Educator of the year by Mark Arts. Only five educators by selected for this award for having the largest amount of students artwork selected in the Scholastics awards.
In a total of three years my students collected over 90 awards for the Scholastics Art Awards in the Eastern State of Kansas.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards – Eastern Kansas Region:
2023: 19 awards earned by students in my classroom
2024: 39 awards, including 2 American Visions awards (only 5 given statewide)
2025: 35 awards, including 1 American Visions award
- These awards lead Mark Arts to select me as one of the five top educators competing in the Scholastics Eastern Region for the past three years.
One of my students received a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for “Best Mixed Media” in 2024, awarded by Hon. Ron Estes, U.S. Representative
Taught Advanced Placement (AP) Visual Arts for two years
In 2024, two students scored 4 out of 5 on the AP exam in my first year teaching the course
Collaborated with five art department colleagues to plan and execute the North High Art student exhibition from 2023, 2024 and 2025 school year.
Co-led a collaborative show in October 2023 at Mark Arts, focusing on student-created work addressing social issues in our community
Organized and participated in five separate student art displays during the 2023–2024 school year
Volunteered my classroom as an AVID demo site for our school’s AVID renewal
The state coordinator noted my advanced integration of AVID strategies into Visual Arts as an exemplary model for cross-curricular use
Hold three degrees: Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Science in Education, and a Master’s in Special Education
