The end of an era, the last stand of the first incarnation of Night of the Iguana. Born though the cracked pavement of an abandoned airport the new sound died with many of our Aardvark brethren. This Night of the Iguana was Wef, Mooncookie, Mel, and Charlie. Recorded at Spaid (as in Joe) Studios in Southern California in the summer of 1985.
Live garage sessions in preparation for Night of the Iguana's 1985 studio classic "Dancing on the Moon." Longer jams, more ambient noise and chatter between songs. You can feel the thumb screws tighten as our heroes feel their way through dark to find the soul of each song. This Night of the Iguana is Kevin, Mooncookie, Charlie and Wef.
Del Mar CA in late spring of 1985, oceanfront at The Pad, site of many other good times and sordid scenes. Remember the indoor/outdoor water fights? The graffiti all over the living room walls? Oddly, Larry got his deposit back at the end of the lease. (I was there the last day, as he debated what to do with the cash). Name the freaks you might recognize. I didn't know them all then and have forgotten some since. How many live? Where are they today? Comments encouraged, especially anyone who was there. Cameos by San Diego County Sheriff's deputies and Erik, back after his first year at Yale, before his writing career but clearly a minor celebrity already.
Band is Steve, Drums, Jeff Keyboard, Mike and Kevin(Orange Mel, from the favorite Tie Dye shirt) on guitars. Not bad for a 35 year old VHS. I think the tape runs longer than what's here. If so, I will post more when I find the time to transfer and upload. I spy Scott (standing close to the deputies) and Lee (on the lawn in stoic silhouette)... Fast Eddy providing the timely beer... Fred looking over my shoulder... I hear Bri Fri grabbing camera so he could film a fleeing Cathie... ("Just yes or no John." "No." "No? (pause for reflection) You pig." (grabs camera)) However, my favorite interchange is:
Me: This is terrible. No one is ever going to want to watch this. You should stop it. John: I don't know how to stop it.

Find a 500 pound electric organ on the street, move it into the Commandant's garage, and add beer. What more do you expect?
