My Personal Philosophy for using Technology in Education
Technology plays a major role in everyone’s lives. Technology can be defined as a body of knowledge devoted to creating tools, processing actions and the extracting of materials (Ramey, 2018). Whether we are aware or not, everyone encounters some type of technology every day. It could be either our phones, computers, smartboards, printers, projectors, or the television.
The effective use of digital learning tools in classrooms can increase student engagement, help teachers improve their lesson plans, and facilitate personalized learning. It also helps students build essential 21st-century skills. School of Education - American University (2022)
As teachers in this technology-crazed era, it lies in what educators do with it and how it is used to best support their students’ needs.
Technology provides students with easy-to-access information, accelerated learning, and fun opportunities to practice what they learn despite their learning style.
Technology also changes the way teachers teach, it offers educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means. It enhances the relationship between students and teachers through effective collaboration and communication. Not only can teachers engage with students during lessons, but students can also communicate with each other.
When technology is effectively integrated into subject areas, it helps make teaching and learning more meaningful and fun, especially with the interactive activities that not only get students involved in the teaching-learning process it gives every student the opportunity to participate.
Finally, even though this can be a challenge technology integration in education removes physical barriers such as location and financial limitations. This was proven when the pandemic hits and learning was partially impacted due to technology.
In conclusion, Technology in education is effective once integrated properly as it caters to all learning styles as well as students get the opportunity to communicate and collaborate.
