Hurricanes

A hurricane is a type of cyclone, which is basically a powerful, rotating storm that originates in warm tropical oceans and creates strong winds and heavy rain.

A hurricane has 3 parts. They are the eye, eye wall and the rain band. The eye is the hole at the center of the storm. The eye wall is a ring around the eye. The eye wall is where winds are strongest and rain is heaviest. Finally, the rain band is bands of clouds and rain that go far out from a hurricane's eye wall. These bands stretch for hundreds of miles and they contain thunderstorms and sometimes tornadoes.

Hurricanes are interesting because they form over warm water and use it as an energy source. Hurricanes can also create tornadoes, high waves and widespread flooding.
