I received the Laurea cum laude (2006) and the PhD in Computer Science (2010) from the University of Genova. Between 2008 and 2009, I have been visiting PhD student at the IDIAP Institute (Switzerland). Since 01/2018 I am assistant professor in Computer Science at DIBRIS, University of Genova, where I have previously been a research associate (2010-2017).
My research activity is mainly focused on the design and development of computational models exploitining Computer Vision and Machine Learning for the general goal of understanding dynamic information. Over the years, I have explored the theoretical foundations of Computer Vision and Image Processing and considered applications as human-machine interactions and natural interfaces, robotics, video-surveillance and Ambient Assisted Living. In such contexts, I developed experience in analysing data of different type and dimensionality, that I am now exploiting in my current collaborations with universities and research institutes, industries and hospitals, to address problems of temporal data analysis at a larger scale.
I am author of about 50 publications, and I participated to various national and international research projects (e.g. EU projects SAFEPOST and Healh-e-Child), and technology transfer and development projects with SMEs and large companies. In the last years, I organized international workshops on motion understanding themes, and I have been invited speaker and tutorial lecturer for several international scientific events. I am currently guest editor for the IEEE Transactions on Cognitive and Developmental Systems and editor of the Springer book "Modelling human motion".
