I was raised in a family of four, not counting my parents. I have a sister, Kaitlyn, and two brothers, Tyler and Eric. I grew up on a farm which has made me a very hard worker. In my family, we have had a lot of struggles. My oldest brother Tyler passed away when I was in eighth grade. This same year, but a few months later, my grandpa on my mom’s side passed away. In middle school, my dad was in the hospital with cancer, and after this, both of my grandpas also got cancer. We have been through our share of troubles, but we were always able to get through it and come out stronger in the end. These events have also been able to bring my family closer together. The person that I think I have the greatest bond with is my sister Kaitlyn. She is almost three years younger than me, and we have been sharing a room for a large portion of her life. At times, we can seem extremely similar, but at the same time very different. We both have similar humor which helps me because I like to make her laugh. Also, we like the same music which comes in handy every morning when we drive to school together. We both have similar struggles with anxiety, only she has gone through more when dealing with it. She is very important to me, and even if she upsets me, I would do anything to protect her.
In high school, I have been able to maintain good grades and a high GPA. I have high standards, so my definition of “good” is A’s. My classmates would probably describe me as quiet and smart, but I think I am just hardworking and responsible. I get my homework done on time and to the best of my ability. If I don’t understand something, I continue trying to figure it out. I am very persistent in this way. School has taught me a lot about what qualities I should have. It has taught me how to be responsible for myself and get things done. It has also taught me how to be a better communicator.
When I am older, I want to be a veterinarian. This has been my dream since I was in kindergarten. I have always loved animals, and I wanted my professional adult life to somehow involve them. To prepare for this, I have taken many science classes including an animal science class. I am going to Kansas State University for college because it has a good veterinary program. I plan on getting a four year degree in pre-vet medicine through the animal science route as opposed to the biology route. I have already enrolled in an early admittance program to the College of Veterinary Medicine at K-State. I will be there for four years, making my total time in college eight years. This is where I will get my Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine or DVM.
My favorite quote is from the Harry Potter series. It is a quote from Albus Dumbledore. He says “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”It is my favorite because I can relate to it. My anxiety causes a lot of negative thinking so I have to remember to not look at the bad, but look at the good. I kind of live by this quote. An example of this is when Tyler passed away. I can’t focus on the negative of him being gone and not being able to see him again. I had to think of how he is in a much better place now. He was crippled and couldn’t walk, talk, or eat. He spent a lot of time lying on the couch and not being able to go outside too much. I am Catholic, so I believe he is in heaven outside of the body that gave him so many limitations.
