Returning to the down-home northeastern feeling that inspired my first design, I created a conceptual piece of cover art for a book based around the LGBT culture of Salem, Massachusetts, drenched in the chilling undertones of its witch trial history and liminal spaces. This project was highly personal to me, and the final product reflects a lot of my impressions of the city of Salem growing up outside of that area in a majority-Conservative town. Thinking along those same lines of what might've been, it is easy to then incorporate the concept of liminal spaces, an online trend related to the discovery, exploration and fabrication of areas which seem in a way, stuck in time. Malls untouched since 2005, abandoned Kmarts, you get the idea. Working on a neon sign was a first for me in Photoshop, but I've never turned down a challenge when thinking outside the box. Perhaps not my proudest first draft...
