Nicolay Dorsett is a dance artist from Sunrise, FL. She began dancing at seven years old under Shawna Hall- Bowden at Diverse Elements Dance Company and she remained there until she graduated high school. Nicolay attended the University of South Florida (USF) where she graduated with a BFA in Modern Dance Performance and a BA in Health Sciences in the Spring of 2020. During Nicolay’s time at USF, she studied under professors Bliss Kolmyer, Michael Foley, Andrew Carrol, Paula Nuñez, Andee Scott, John Parks, and Jeanne Travers and performed in works by renowned choreographers, including Vespers by Ulysses Dove and Prowl by Claudia Lavista. In October of 2019, she was selected to be a part of the USF/China Exchange Program to participate and perform in the International Creative Dance Seminar at Beijing Normal University.
After graduating from USF, Nicolay moved to Dayton, OH and joined the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC) as a JB Fellow in 2020 and was promoted to the first company in 2021. While at DCDC, Nicolay has performed notable works like The Stack Up by Talley Beatty, Jacob’s Ladder by Rennie Harris, and And Each New Day by Kevin Ward, and more. Additionally, Nicolay has performed with the Dayton Dance Initiative (DDI) for the summer 2023 season and in the 2024 season she choreographed a work called The Journey of the Six for DDI’s Unite and Ignite show at the PNC Annex. Nicolay enjoys sharing her gift, ideals, and knowledge with the world and hopes to inspire and role model.
