As a movement artist, I take great pride in the care and upkeep of my body. I trust in the somatic approach of dance, which is practiced through self-awareness and the first-person experience of moving. In my mind, discipline and control are important, but so is freedom and discovery. Even though I began dancing young, I am a lifelong student who is constantly learning her body, her mind, her emotions, and her connection to the world and the people inside of it. I am interested in how health and wellness can help in the longevity of a dance career and the preservation of the dancer as a whole; mentally, physically, and spiritually.
The human body is one of God’s most beautiful creations. It is capable of many things naturally and so much more when you push its boundaries. I believe dance is the gateway to moving past limitations of the body. It creates an environment that cultivates creativity and physicality that enhances the human experience. Dance helps you discover and master your physical body as well as challenge your creative side as an artist. Knowing your body in that way helps it to last longer, to feel better, and to move with grace.
Being a lifelong dancer and learner, I really want to go out and follow any pathways that dance presents to me and take chances. This will facilitate the growth of my passion with dance. I see myself working with different choreographers and traveling around the world experiencing diverse stages and cultures. I desire to be intertwined with dance for the rest of my life; whether I’m performing, teaching, or mentoring/ guiding others in dance wellness. Sharing my gift, ideals, knowledge, and love for dance with the world; I want to be an inspiration and role model to dance artist to come.
