Hello my name Nick Bonilla and I am an aspiring engineer who has a strong love for music. The reason I want to pursue the field of engineering is because I was heavily inspired by my father who is an engineer for NAVSEA and worked on cool Projects and got to travel the world. What really helped me realize that this was the path for me was when I was in Middle school and was in the Gateway tech program which was a class essentially made to teach you the basics of coding, working with 3d modeling, and Vex robotics. This sparked my love for these things because it gave me the creative freedom to create and produce really anything I wanted to just by coding it or designing it in a 3d modeling software. When I started looking further into the career and realized that engineering involves designing, creating, and building things all with creative freedom and the intent to create something for the better of the world, I knew that engineering was for me.
Some classes that I've taken so far to prepare me for the Engineering field are a Gateway tech class(as previously mentioned), Math up to Pre-Calculus, a Pre-engineering class, and an Intro to engineering class. I am also currently enrolled at the Dr. James A Forrest Technology Center where I am receiving further education in the engineering field. So far these classes and programs have taught me how to Use a 3d modeling program which at the time was Inventor and Sketch up, basic programing and coding, as well as basic robotics skills.
I have been involved in many extracurricular activities including Marching Band, M.E.S.A, and DI. These things have helped me develop great teamwork and leadership skills by giving me many opportunities to work with others and expanding my ability to speak out about my ideas. This also helped me a lot with talking to others and made me able to work with other people more easily. One of these after school activities that really helped me learn a lot and prepare me for the engineering field was MESA. It helped me gain basic skills in engineering such as what the engineering process is, how to design a prototype, how model and create your prototype, and much more. These things ultimately jumpstarted my delve into the engineering field and helped me build a strong foundation for my future in engineering.
After high-school I plan to go to college to continue my study in engineering. I will also likely start looking for jobs and opportunities that allow me to apply the skills I have gained and also allow me to learn more about being an engineer. Whether that be internships, working as an apprentice, or just going straight into working on a project for a company of some sort. I will still pursue a college education to further broaden my skillset and to open more opportunities for myself but If a job comes along while I am in the process of pursing college then I'd happily take it.
When I do eventually get to become a successful engineer, I would love to make things for myself and things that are fun but I also want to create things that will make life easier for me and other people as well. I want to have a positive impact on my community and the world. If i attain my dream, I could invent the next cutting edge invention that may just change society forever! Though my ultimate goal is to be able to reach out to people through my works and to enjoy my time while doing so.
