FIRE COMPANY
On Saturday, February 22nd, the Nicholson Sesquicentennial Committee will be presenting the history of the Fire Company from 1-3 p.m. at the Nicholson Tourism Center at the Historic DL&W Railroad Station, 21 Lackawanna Trail (Route 11).
And on Sunday, February 23rd, come to the Fire Hall (44 Main Street) for an Open House hosted by the Fire Company from 1-3p.m. to get a free smoke detector (while supplies last) and learn about fire safety and prevention from our dedicated firefighters, or, to find out how to become one yourself!

As a continuing part of Nicholson’s 150th birthday celebration, the Sesquicentennial Committee is looking for any and all historic memorabilia to be used during February’s month-long tribute to the Fire Company.
Copies of old photographs, old newspaper articles, old postcards, souvenirs, antiques, anything and everything you would be willing to share on loan for display purposes would be greatly appreciated to help honor all the years of relentless and dedicated service provided by this organization.

NICHOLSON’S GRAND HOTELS
As part of Nicholson’s 150th Birthday Celebration, the Sesquicentennial Committee is presenting a history of Nicholson’s six (6) grand hotels free of charge on January 18th at the Nicholson Tourism Center at the Historic DL&W Railroad Station, 21 Lackawanna Trail (Route 11) from 12-3p.m.
The public is cordially invited to embark on this journey into Nicholson’s once flourishing, but now all but forgotten hospitality industry.

BEARD/MOUSTACHE CONTEST
In an effort to recreate a part of Nicholson’s past 150 years, the Nicholson Sesquicentennial Committee is holding a beard/moustache contest. The contest will have numerous categories in which you can register including the longest beard. So, forget the razor and start growing those whiskers NOW.
Judging will take place during the August 23rd Sesquicentennial Celebration Weekend and aside from showing off all that fabulous facial hair, various prizes will be awarded. Now’s the time to turn that scruff into a prize-winning entry!

LOGO ART/DESIGN CONTEST
The Nicholson Sesquicentennial Committee (NSC) is looking for contestants to enter a design logo contest. The winning logo will be used throughout Nicholson’s 150th (1875-2025) birthday celebration (NOT the bridge) commemorating the incorporation of the borough and should reflect the historical significance of Nicholson’s past.
The logo will be used on social media sites, posters, brochures, other printed materials, T shirts, souvenirs, or anywhere else the committee may choose.
There is no monetary compensation for the winning entry and the logo will become the exclusive property of the Nicholson Sesquicentennial Committee. However, the logo will be credited to the successful artist at the opening ceremony and by multimedia recognition before and during the celebration.
Eligibility - The competition is open to local artists or anyone with a passion to create. One or more submissions per person is acceptable. Each submission must be entered separately.
By entering, participants agree to be bound by the contest rules. Violating any rule or not following instructions may eliminate participants’ eligibility.
Contest Rules and Guidelines –
Design can be hand drawn or digitally created.
Please DO NOT include the Nicholson Bridge in your design.
Your logo must include the words – “Sesquicentennial”, “Nicholson, PA”, “150”, “1875” and “2025”.
Create a logo design that is unique and does not infringe on any copyrighted materials.
Ensure your design is versatile and can be used across different media platforms, both digital and print.
The logo must be easy to use, handle, resize, and manipulate for all reproduction purposes. It should be visually appealing on both small (as small as 2 cm x 2 cm) and large scales.
You may include additional elements such as symbols, graphics, and typography to enhance your design.
Entries will be judged on their visual appeal, quality of design, and ease of reproduction for the purposes stated above.

As you’re looking through all those time-tested and treasured, handed down through the generations, family favorite recipes for the upcoming holidays, please make a copy to submit to the Nicholson Sesquicentennial Committee (NSC) for a 150-recipe cookbook they will be publishing in the near future as part of Nicholson’s 150th Birthday Celebration.
Please include your name and phone number as well as the name of the person whose recipe it originally belonged to and their relationship with you.
Also, include if you wish, any anecdote about the recipe(s).
And yes, you can submit as many as you like.
