Ms. Nadine, Hilton Guam HR's Presentation May 7, 2024

During Ms. Nadine's presentation, I learned that applying for a job can be quite stressful. It's important to carefully review the application before filling it out, ensuring you make a good impression since you only get one chance at it. Making sure that first impression is a good one can really make a difference in how people see you and how they remember you. Dressing professionally is vital because first impressions matter and cannot be undone.

Ms. Nadine taught us important things. I learned when we can sign up for health and dental insurance. It's really important to do it on time so we don't miss out on being covered for the next year. When we're filling out forms, we should make sure our contact details are right and not call too much for updates. It's better to wait for about 3-5 days before asking about any changes.

Presentation by CTE Counselor, Ms. Oliveros Nov. 16, 2023

One of the few things that I learned in Ms. Oliveros presentation was CTE, meaning Career and Technical Education. According to her presentation, taking CTE classes and programs teach us students the skills we need to begin our career. I also learned that there are seven CTE programs and you can take more than two electives depending on your schedule. One of the few more things that I learned during the presentation was the Work Experience Program (WE). To participate in this program, you would have to be in the second year of a CTE program. The last thing that I learned is DCAPS, with DCAPS students can get 15 free college credits.

I was pleasantly surprised, and I would like to express my gratitude to Ms. Oliveros for taking the time to come and present to our class about the GCC programs and Hospitality. The variety of scholarship opportunities was unexpected for me, and Ms. Oliveros provided explanations in a manner that was easy for us to understand, offering potential benefits for our future at GCC or UOG. This experience was enlightening, and I express my gratitude to Ms. Oliveros for giving us this opportunity. I eagerly anticipate her return with additional information that could further assist me in the future.

Professional Dress Day Jan. 11, 2023

What is professional dress day? What did you struggle with?

On Professional Dress Day, people wear their best formal clothes. In jobs like business and hospitality, it's essential to learn how to dress well for things like job interviews or work. I had a bit of trouble finding the right clothes today, and many places didn't have what I needed or the right size. But in the end, it was worth it.

How did I feel?

Honestly, I felt a mix of emotions today. I was nervous about going to school in formal clothes because I didn't want others to judge me. I don't really feel comfortable in today's outfit, as it's not my usual style. But I'm happy to see everyone else wearing it and smiling.
