"Every one who is perfectly instructed will be like his teacher"
"A progressive teaching philosophy is rooted in the educator's desire to help all students to work together for a common goal, which ought to be in all cases, a change for the better. The successful teacher also strives to hone superior skills in content delivery. This is fundamental to effective teaching, since dynamism is a characteristic feature of the education process. No two classes are the same; society is constantly evolving; ultimately, times are changing. What then about teaching? Should the process remain static? That ought not to be so! Out with mere regurgitation of texts, and in with questioning of ideas and challenging assumptions! I am a firm believer in teaching for transformation. Collaboration is another feature of my practice. Sharing and exchanging ideas with my colleagues makes teaching one of the most rewarding experiences, especially in these challenging times. Speaking of challenges, humour goes a long way in making teaching enjoyable. I know. I have laughed many a time when students correct a misspelling on the board, and we have a whole group laugh on many occasions, when I mispronounce a word! Being constructive rather than critical, is an added component of my philosophy. My ultimate aim is that students should always feel uplifted after our time together has come to an end. We exist in difficult times and students may be worn down by a variety of factors, so it is inevitable that my role is going to be a multi-faceted one - educator, friend, advisor, and mentor. I aim to teach with love, and encourage students to make a difference not only in their own lives, but also in the lives of others.
Indeed, the words of 17th century philosopher, John Amos Comenius, underpins my philosophy: "To teach means scarcely anything more than to show how things differ from one another in their different purposes, forms, and origins.....Therefore, he who differentiates well teaches well."
