Development of a 3D Printed Teeth Splint with a colorimetric sensor for Bruxism Diagnosis
Problems of Sleep Bruxism
Sleep bruxism(SB) is a stereotyped movement disorder characterized by grinding or clenching of the teeth during sleep.
Approximately 10% of the population have a bruxism which is a movement disorder of a masticatory system.
In the long term, SB can lead to teeth wear, temporomandibular disorders, and headaches.
Current Limitations of Diagnostic Method of Bruxism
Traditional diagnosis methods like questionnaires cannot explain exactly how severe bruxism is so our goal is to develop an instructive, and simple method to diagnose Bruxism.
Proposed Solution
Modeling the teeth and split by SolidWorks and Meshmixer
Four layers with different colors
The thickness for each layer is 0.5 mm (minimum thickness to distinguish the color)
A tooth model will be used for the wear test with a chewing simulator with following conditions
Normal forces are 50 and 90N
The number of cycles are 20,000 and 40,000
