I grew up on the rural south shore of Nova Scotia (east coast of Canada for non-local folks). I moved to Halifax to attend Dalhousie University in 2012 and lived in the city for 8 years. I eventually made my way to the Dark Side, AKA Halifax's sister city of Dartmouth.
At the beginning of 2021, I moved to lovely Waterloo, Ontario. Waterloo and Halifax are similar in size, but there is a distinct feeling in Waterloo which I enjoy exploring.
You may notice the gap in my mathematical journey. After finishing my Honours degree at Dalhousie in 2016, I had every intention of becoming a high school math teacher, so I enrolled in the appropriate program at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. The experience was a highly educational one - in 2019 I realized that I would not enjoy teaching high school math, so I devoted my energy to applying for graduate programs in math while working as a high school and early university math tutor. I nevertheless remain extremely passionate about math teaching and education, just at a higher level.
On the non-academic side of things, I enjoy watching movies and TV shows and thinking about things like screenwriting and filmmaking. My favourite movie is Good Will Hunting, and not just because of the math - which, evidently, is not as hard as Stellan Skarsgård's character would have you believe. Groundhog Day and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 are close runner-ups.
