Some things to note before talking about camp or events:
Your SCA/persona name is what you are called. This SCAdian chose the name Nicasia Leontodes. You can use first and/or last names that already exists in the SCA as this SCAdian did with hers (especially since they already have documentation to support use), you just can't share the same exact first and last name as someone else, nor can it sound too too similar.
Your (heraldic) device represents who YOU are. This SCAdian's device is pictured in the link. This image is unique to this SCAdian in that no one else will have a lion standing in this position facing this direction surrounded by this frame using these colours. Devices are also made to represent households, not just persons.
Your badge can represent possessions, retainers (people taking on the public façade of being a servant), members, or other items... and so much more. This SCAdian does not yet have a badge. Badges are not on a "field" like a heraldic device, click the link to see more.
There are technically rules to use these things, such as a device only being displayed when the owner is present (so at Pennsic, your banner should be taken down when you leave camp and raised when you return) whereas a badge could be used at any time.
You will see people bending these rules. You may not want to advertise that your things aren't being looked after at your camp while you're shopping or walking around if you're worried about theft. You may not wish to advertise when you are in bed every night if you're a lone (and/or female) camper.
This SCAdian is no exception to bending the rules. A smaller-scale example would be that the man that fights on behalf of this SCAdian (the fighter to whom this SCAdian is consort to) put her heraldic device on the shoulder of his fighting tunic. He is not fighting for any other lion or lioness (as lions are commonly used in heraldry - both in fantasy and in the SCA) because it's very clear that he is fighting for Nicasia using her heraldic image. It is a permanent part of his tunic, he cannot take it off if Nicasia is not present.
