Also a member of the local Niagara Thunderblades para ice hockey team, the Vale Centre is Gegory’s home ice. Now, with the members of Team Ontario by her side, she will be close to home for her first national tournament since giving birth to her son in 2022.
A huge shoutout goes to Devan Doxtator from the Oneida Nation of the Thames, and currently living in Niagara, ON.
She plays Para Ice hockey for the Niagara Thunderblades of the Ontario Sledge Hockey Association.
She was on the Canadian Women’s National Para Ice Hockey team for the 2019/2020 season as a Goaltender, eventually switching to Forward.
She attends the Women’s Para Hockey of Canada, which is an incredible program that contributes to the health and well-being of girls and women+ with disabilities by developing, promoting, and providing opportunities to participate in the sport of para hockey from grassroots development, to an elite level throughout Canada. They focus on developing an attitude that promotes inclusion, collaboration, teamwork, self-efficacy, and gender parity, while educating and empowering girls and women+
Please follow @wphcanada to learn more about the program!
While she’s not not playing Para Ice hockey, she’s an elementary school teacher who focuses on Indigenous Education.
Thank you for being a tremendous Role Model, Devan! Keep up the amazing working and being inspirational!

“For anyone who has not seen the sport of sledge hockey played, especially at this level, I encourage you to bring your family and friends because it is absolutely unbelievable,” says OSHA president Darren Cunliffe
Congratulations to Sheena Darnley, a Grade 10 student at Notre Dame College School. Sheena has been named to the Women’s National Para Ice Hockey team. Sheena is one of the Top 20 players in the country selected to prepare for the 2023 IPC Women’s Para Ice Hockey World Challenge in the fall.
“This was by far the most competitive selection camp our program has ever had. It was a really difficult task to narrow down to our top 20 as everyone improved throughout the 5 days in Montreal,” said head coach, Tara Chisholm said in a media release issued by the organization.
The first event for the Women's National Team will get under way in Ottawa, Ontario from April 12-16 as the team will compete against men’s teams in the top division of the Ottawa Invitational Sledge Hockey Tournament.
The team will be honouring Kellan Rylett by raising his #3 on a banner in the Vale Centre.
