History of the Department

The Department of Zoology was established in the session 1971-72, as per the policy of the Govt. at undergraduate level vied Govt, of Mahararhtra.

Dr. D. J. Shrikhande was appointed as Head of the Department, who have established the Department and equipped it with the all neceessory infrastructure and laboratory. Along with Dr. D. J. Shrikhande, Dr W.R. Bhandarkar and Shri A. Z. Nakahate appointed as a faculty in the Department. Also Shri. Karu Dange appointed as laboratory assistance and Shri Budhaji Dange as Laboratory attendant. Later on Dr. A.A. Dhamani appointed as a lecturer in the department in 1986 and in 1988 Dr. R. J. Andrew appointed as a lecturer. Presentally Shri. J. W. Hajare and Shri. D. G. Atla is working in the department as lecturer. And Shri. Dinesh H. Atram as a Laboratory Attendent.

College has started M.Sc. in Zoology from session 2001 -2002 in the department.

Department also received the honor of having first CHLR in Zoology in RTM Nagpur University out of Nagpur since 2005.

So far 16 students awarded with Ph.D and 03 students were submitted their thesis in the university.

The Department runs the following courses

I. B.Sc. (CBCS)

B.Sc I- Sem I & II -Two papers of 50 marks each with Practicals of 30 marks, internal 20 Marks, total weightage of 150 marks

B.Sc II- Sem III & IV -Two papers of 50 marks each with Practicals of 30 marks, internal 20 marks, total weightage of 150 marks .

B.Sc III- Sem. V & VI-Two papers of 50 marks each with Practicals of 30 marks,internal 20marks, total weightage of 150 marks

II. M.Sc. (CBCS)

Department has started M.Sc. in zoology since 2001-2002 Session.

III. Ph. D.

Department of Zoology established CHLR in Zoology since 2005-2006 .Till date as many as 16 students were awarded with Ph. D Degree, 15 Students from R.T.M. Nagpur University and 01 Student from Gondwana University Gadchiroli. 03 Students submitted their thesis to Gondwana University. Currently 16 students working as a Ph. D. scholar in Dept.

Achievement / Research work :

• The Department is having one well equipped laboratory, staff room.
• The Department has organized so far one workshop on syllabus in Sem V in 2014.
• In addition to this the Department organizes the study tours, Student seminars.
• The teaching faculty of this Department is involved in research. J.W. Hajare and D.G.Atla has published 1 research papers in National journal.
• The faculty has contributed a lot in Administrative services of the college in various ways by participating and heading the various committees.
• Alumni of this Department is very strong and many are placed in various Academic Position in different colleges and universities , Industruies, , central and state offices.
• Ku. Yamini Y. Chandekar secured 4^th merit position in B. C. A RTM University examination Summer -2012.
