Our Nation’s Capitol
Washington, D.C.
The elementary student of NHP recently went to Washington, D.C. Our virtual fieldtrip included tours of The White House, The U.S. Capitol Building, The Supreme Court, The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, as well as Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of The Unknow Soldier. As our 5th graders have been studying United States history, this proved to be an excellent virtual fieldtrip in assisting their understanding of The City of U.S.
Academic Awesomeness
All of NHP’s elementary students have been working very diligently in improving their academic skills. One such platform we use is called IXL. This education website offers instruction and remediation in Math, Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts. As of the end of May our students have answered over 2500 questions. We are very proud of their dedication.
Recognizing and Celebrating People with Different Abilities
The elementary students of NHP have been busy developing a better understanding of their own special abilities. Recently, our students participated in The Music Center’s Very Special Arts Festival. The Very Special Arts Festival is an annual inclusive event in Los Angeles that celebrates the artistic achievements of students with all abilities. This year our students participated virtually and walked away with a new sense of what each of them might be able to contribute to the arts. As part of their heightened awareness, our NHP elementary students learned about perseverance, goal setting, and courage through interactive lessons sponsored by Heart of a Champion, ClassDojo, and the Tokyo Olympics. This program offers discussions led by Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Kindness was also theme throughout our student’s learning about people with different abilities which prompted our students to design different pieces of art work made from seeds. We called them “Seeds of Kindness”. What an amazing feeling to watch the internal growth towards others and their abilities.
