Welcome to our Javanese gamelan community ensemble! We are dedicated to learning, teaching, and sharing gamelan music from Central Java, Indonesia.
The gamelan ensemble is a traditional percussive orchestra from Indonesia that dates back centuries. While we play pieces that are hundreds of years old, we may also play brand new compositions - gamelan is a living, evolving music. Please visit our "resources" page for more information about gamelan music.
We are privileged to learn from Javanese and American teachers who generously share their knowledge. In turn, we share and teach, and cultivate appreciation and passion for gamelan music, while promoting intercultural exchange in the Greater New Haven area.
We wish to thank the Yale University Gamelan, Yale Department of Music, and Yale Council for Southeast Asian Studies for their support (including provision of instruments and rehearsal space).
