I am a Senior Research Fellow at the Kids Research Institute Australia, the ARC Life Course Centre, and the University of Western Australia.
My research aims to generate robust evidence on key policy questions in health, environmental, and education economics, with an emphasis on child and family health and wellbeing, and to identify the policies and conditions that enable children and their families—particularly those from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds—to reach their full potential.
I have published in both policy and academic outlets, including articles in top-tier ABDC A*-rated economics journals such as Journal of Health Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Health Economics (five articles), American Journal of Health Economics, Labour Economics, and Journal of Population Economics.
I have also contributed to evaluations of major Australian Government programs targeting disadvantaged populations, with findings informing policy development and reform.
As a Chief Investigator, I have received research funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the Australian Government Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF).
My current work focuses on four key areas:
Investigating the impacts of extreme weather events and potential mitigating mechanisms: recent publications in JEEM (Conversation article, featured at The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction), Journal of Health Economics, Ecological Economics, or WP
Quantifying the effectiveness of public policies on educational pathways and the causal effects of education on the social, economic, and health outcomes of Australians and their descendants (approved PLIDA): most recent article in EER, or WP
Analysing the impact of public policies on private health insurance enrolment and healthcare utilization using approved Person Level Integrated Data Asset (PLIDA): most recent publications in Health Economics, JEEM, or WP
Exploring causal impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on the mental health of Australian children (MRFF funded project: ID 2024/MRF2036125): WP (coming soon)
