Prof. Nitya Nand Gosvami
Associate Professor
Dr. Nitya Nand Gosvami is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). He received his B.Tech. with Honours in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), India, in 2003, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2008.
Following his doctoral studies, Dr. Gosvami joined the Leibniz Institute for New Materials, Germany, as a Postdoctoral Scientist, where he was subsequently awarded the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. He also spent time as a Visiting Scientist in the Department of Physics at McGill University, Canada. In 2010, he joined University College London, UK, as a Research Associate, working in collaboration with the London Centre for Nanotechnology. In 2012, he moved to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, where he served as a Research Project Manager before joining IIT Delhi in 2016.
Dr. Gosvami's research lies at the intersection of materials science, nanomechanics, and tribology, with a particular focus on understanding the mechanical and tribological behavior of materials at the nanoscale. His research group investigates the fundamental mechanisms governing friction, wear, lubrication, and tribochemical processes at sliding interfaces, with an emphasis on liquid–solid interfaces and advanced materials. His work combines nanoscale experimental approaches, including atomic force microscopy, with materials characterization and mechanistic understanding to develop fundamental insights for designing next-generation low-friction, wear-resistant, and energy-efficient materials and interfaces.
