A wonderful Start to Term 3

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to another exciting term at Ngayuk College. It has been a fantastic start to Term 3, with our students embracing opportunities to learn, connect and succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

The first few weeks have been filled with meaningful cultural experiences, sporting opportunities and celebrations of student achievement. Thank you to our staff, students, families and community partners who continue to make Ngayuk College such a vibrant and welcoming place to learn.

Honouring Culture – NAIDOC Week Smoking Ceremony

We were privileged to commence our NAIDOC Week celebrations with a traditional Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle Trevor.

The ceremony provided students, staff and members of our community with the opportunity to come together in recognition of the rich history, culture and traditions of Australia's First Nations peoples. The smoking ceremony symbolised cleansing, healing and new beginnings, while reminding us all of the importance of respect, connection and reconciliation.

It was wonderful to see families join us for this special occasion, reflecting the strong partnership we continue to build with our community. Experiences such as these provide invaluable opportunities for our students to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Hockey Victoria Visits Ngayuk College

Students enjoyed an action-packed day when Hockey Victoria visited Ngayuk College to deliver an engaging hockey program.

Throughout the day, students developed new skills, participated in fun activities and experienced the excitement of one of Australia’s great team sports. The sessions encouraged teamwork, resilience, communication and active participation, while allowing students of all skill levels to have a go in a supportive environment.

Students also had the opportunity to learn more about the Melbourne Cobras, Hockey Victoria’s newest Hockey One franchise. The Cobras are helping to grow the profile of hockey and inspire the next generation of players, with a strong focus on connecting with schools and communities across Melbourne. It was fantastic for our students to experience hockey firsthand and learn more about the opportunities available to become involved in the sport.

A sincere thank you to Hockey Victoria for providing such an enjoyable and professional experience for our students. We look forward to continuing to build opportunities for students to engage in a variety of sports and connect with sporting organisations within our growing community.

Celebrating Excellence at Our Whole College Assembly

On Friday the 17th of July, we celebrated the achievements of students in Semester One with our first Awards Assembly.  Students received awards in three different categories. 

Top 10% Grade Point Average (GPA) awards were presented to students who received a GPA that placed them in the top echelon for Semester One.  These students consistently exhibited the behaviours and expectations that we value so highly at Ngayuk College. 

GPA Growth awards were presented to students who demonstrated the highest level of growth in the GPA results between Term 1 and Term 2.  These students demonstrated reflection and a desire to improve in their effort, behaviour, organisation and studies. 

The third category of awards was the Academic Excellence awards.  These were presented to the student with the highest results in each subject. Academic Excellence awards reflect outstanding commitment and dedication to studies. 

We congratulate all students on their awards at this assembly, and thank the many family and friends from the community who joined us to celebrate this occasion.

As we continue through Term 3, we look forward to many more opportunities for our students to learn, connect and celebrate together. Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support as we continue to build a college where every student is known, valued and encouraged to achieve their personal best.

Division Athletics 

On Monday the 3rd of August, Ngayuk college had the privilege of attending our first ever division athletic carnival at Meadowglen athletics track.  

This was exciting as it was the first opportunity to come together with all the schools in our division and represent our college with pride and show off the Ngayuk logo.  

We took 14 students to represent the college in a variety of track and field events. Of those 14 students, we had 6 students win their individual events and become division champions, as well as all other students competing at a high level and coming home with a large amount of 2nd and 3rd place ribbons. An incredible achievement, being not only the college’s first division athletics carnival, but also our students first ever attempt at secondary school athletics. We wish those students who won an event the best of luck at the upcoming Northen Metro Regional competition for a chance to make it to the state finals.  

Students represented our college at a high standard in not only sports but also the way they supported each other off the track & Field. Students were cheering each other on and helping their teammates reach new levels. We’re so proud of how our students conducted themselves and represented our college in the community and cannot wait for the opportunity to go enhance our athletics team again next year.
