Unlike past Need for Speed games which has exotic cars, Underground features JDM cars as the game centers around the import racing/tuning scenes. It is also the first game in the series to have a career mode that have a comprehensive storyline, and a garage mode that allowed players to fully customize their cars with a large variety of performance and visual upgrades.
