Target population:This free program supports children and teens ages 6–18 who have experienced trauma such as exposure to violence, domestic issues, parental incarceration, or military family challenges, as well as those in the child welfare or juvenile justice system.
What services are provided: Participants receive trauma-focused care that includes advocacy, counseling, and family support to help children heal and build resilience.
How to get involved: Families can call (504) 836-8701 or visit Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana at 4152 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119 to learn more and begin the referral process.
Target Population: Young men ages 10-12 who are fatherless (due to death, long-term incarceration, deportation, or are adopted by single mothers). Mentees remain in the program through high school/early adulthood.
Services Provided: One-on-one mentoring, group mentorship sessions (topics like decision-making, time management, life skills, leadership), mental health/wellness services, academic support/tutoring, enrichment outings, case management, postsecondary and career planning.
How Teens Get Involved / Cost: Apply via their Mentee Application (no cost to participate). The program selects new mentees based on eligibility.
Target Population: Children and youth, ages roughly 8-18, particularly Black youth in New Orleans looking for role models, emotional support, leadership development.
Services Provided: One-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, monthly “Saturday Academy” gatherings, workshops on life skills, social emotional learning, identity/self-esteem building, moral character, etc.
How to Get Involved / Cost: Free for mentees. Teens or guardians contact 100 Black Men NOLA; mentors are volunteers.
Target Population: Youth from about age 6 up into young adulthood; often including public school students or those in underserved communities.
Services Provided: Two main types: Community-based mentoring (Bigs & Littles meet 2x/month for a few hours), and School-based mentoring (weekly during school/club hours), including academic help, social support. Professional support/advisors help maintain the matches.
How to Get Involved / Cost: Free for mentees. Guardians can enroll youth; adults can apply to become mentors (“Bigs”). Two matches are typically a one-year commitment.
Target Population: Youth in New Orleans (approx teen age) who need help with school success, preparation for the workforce, or who are at risk of negative outcomes; exact ages / criteria might vary. srstrailblazersmentorship.org
