All NEWTech Summer Academy courses are exploratory and have been approved by OSPI, consortium member school districts, and business/industry representatives serving on NEWTech general or program specific Advisory Committees.

Introduction to Aviation CLOSED/FULL

This class will introduce you to the world of aviation. This program will teach you the fundamentals of flight to include units on aviation history, aerodynamics, meteorology, aircraft systems, navigation, flight planning and air traffic control. Experience the world of aviation virtually and through guided hands on projects. This is the perfect class for anyone interested in exploring a career as a pilot, aircraft mechanic, aerospace engineer, air traffic controller or any of the other 70+ aviation careers that are currently experiencing exponential growth.

Introduction to Baking CLOSED/FULL

Students are introduced to the fundamental concepts, skills, science and techniques of baking. Special significance is placed on ingredient functions, the baking process, utensils, equipment, and product identification as applied to baking. Food Handlers card is required by the end of the first week of class.Students can earn a .5 CTE/Elective High School Credit

Introduction to Digital Design and Media - CLOSED/FULL

Students explore two-dimensional design through the development of typography, logos, trademarks and advertising art. The artistic process is implemented while students create “camera-ready” art. Techniques may include block printing, use of the computer as a graphic design tool, digital image manipulation and computer animation. This course includes a study of the elements and principles of art. Students can earn a .5 Art High School Credit

Introduction to Food and Fitness - CLOSED/FULL

This introductory course will includes acquiring health management skills through foods, nutrition, a variety of activities and exercise, and positive self-image and stress management. The food labs focus on healthy food preparation methods. Students will create, implement, monitor, self-assess, and modify a personal fitness and nutrition plan.

Students can earn a .5 PE-Lifetime Fitness High School Credit

Introduction to Health Careers -CLOSED/FULL

Students will develop an awareness of various health-related careers while learning medical terminology, professionalism, confidentiality/HIPAA, and entry-level skills needed for all jobs in the profession. Students earn CPR and First Aid Certification as well.

Students can earn a .5 CTE/Elective High School Credit

Introduction to Music and Audio Production - CLOSED/FULL

This introductory course provides students with an overview of the professional technical skills in audio recording, sound editing, mixing, critical listening, and sound design as well as musical skills such as arranging, composing, harmony, sight-singing, and performance.
