What evidence is there of geomorphic processes on the Dorset Coast?
Your task is to annotate and draw diagrams on the base map to show the different geomorphic processes happening on the Dorset coastline. From your studies at GCSE, geomorphic processes are processes that change the shape of the land and they include weathering, mass movement, erosion, transportation (longshore drift) and deposition. You will need to include evidence of these processes happening on the Dorset coast, by investigating what features and landforms are present here (eg. Cave, arch, stack, stumps, headlands and bays, beaches, spits etc). You may do this hand drawn or typed.
Key Questions:
1. What geomorphic processes are operating on the coast?
2. What evidence is there for these geomorphic processes operating on the coast?
3. Where are these processes occurring and what have they created?
What to include:
- Locations of named places on the map (eg Studland bay)
- Definitions of the geomorphic processes with reference to a specific location on the map
- Evidence of a range landforms, explaining how they formed (eg. Old Harrys Rocks, Swanage Bay etc)
- Photographs and diagrams to show knowledge and understanding of processes and landforms.
Your final piece of work should be a fully detailed map showing locations of places, features, processes and landforms along this section of coastline. The focus is geomorphic processes, so there is no need to include anything else.
