PRESIDENTIAL COVID - 19 PROCLAMATION UPDATE

ISSS is following the updates about new and extended Presidential COVID-19 Proclamations impacting entry to the US from certain countries and the new US entry requirements.

Please be aware that effective January 26, 2021, the CDC will require proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 3 days before departure and a signed attestation to enter the US.

The COVID-19 Country Specific Proclamations limit travel to the United States by individuals who were present in certain countries during the 14-day period prior to their planned entry to the United States. Those countries include South Africa (NEW), China, Iran, European Schengen Area, Ireland and the United Kingdom, and Brazil. Details of these travel restrictions and National Interest Exceptions can be reviewed HERE.

We understand that you may have questions about the travel restrictions, and ISSS will continue to monitor developments related to international travel and update you as we get new information.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Post Completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a benefit that allows temporary employment directly related to an F-1 student's major area of study upon program completion. OPT at the Associate degree level is for a period of 12 months maximum. For more information about OPT and to access the on-line OPT Workshop, go to HERE.

Students graduating at the end of spring 2021 who are interested in applying for OPT should first complete the on-line OPT workshop. The next step is to attend a Virtual OPT Workshop (see dates below) to review the application process.

The earliest date that spring 2021 graduates can apply for OPT is February 3, 2021.

Virtual OPT Workshop Dates for Spring 2021:

  • 2/11/2021 3:00 - 4:00 PM

  • 3/2/2021 3:00 - 4:00 PM

  • 3/25/2021 1:00 - 2:00 PM

  • 4/16/2021 1:00 - 2:00 PM

Call 678-891-3235 or email issspc@gsu.edu if you have questions.

Full-Time Enrollment Reminder

FULL-TIME ENROLLMENT REQUIRED: For SEVIS Reporting purposes, all Perimeter College international students must be properly enrolled or re-enrolled via the “registration adjustment” process if you were dropped for non-payment, by Friday, February 5th.

See below for spring 2021 enrollment guidelines.

IN CASE OF LATE PAYMENT OR COURSE DROP: You can go through the “Registration Adjustment” process to attempt to get back into classes once all tuition and fees are paid. Visit the Enrollment Services website HERE, or contact each faculty member individually and request this process. The process takes 3-4 days but does not stop the SEVIS reporting deadline. Failure to complete registration adjustment by the SEVIS deadline of February 5, 2021 will result in termination of status. (SEVIS reporting is done by ISSS.)

We received information confirming that spring 2021 enrollment guidelines for international students will be the same as fall 2020. Although this document is outdated, you may refer to the fall 2020 SEVP Guidance as a reference.

Please follow these general guidelines for spring 2021 registration:

  1. Continuing students are defined as F-1 students who were enrolled in Fall 2020 (including U.S. transfer students and GSU students changing their degree level in spring):

  • Allowed to enroll in 100% online/blended coursework.

  • Must continue to be enrolled full time.

  • Can re-enter the U.S. for spring 2021 and pursue 100% online coursework if they departed in fall 2020

  1. Newly Admitted Students Outside the U.S. are defined as students who were not enrolled in the U.S. in Fall 2020:

  • Can enter the U.S. for Spring 2021 if at least one course for credit is face-to-face, or blended.

  • If coursework is only offered 100% online, newly admitted students outside the U.S. would need to either enroll remotely or defer their admission to a later term

Please note: You can confirm the type of instruction for each of your classes in PAWS. Under the title of the course, there will be an icon that indicates if the instructional method is F (Face to face), B (Blended), or O (Online).

Please consult with the ISSS office if you are uncertain about your enrollment requirements.

TRAVEL TIPS

It is very important to continue monitoring the CDC website, U.S. Department of State’s travel advisories, the ISSS website, and Georgia State Ahead for up-to-date information regarding travel to the U.S. and campus. Some countries have restrictions on entry into the U.S., and we highly recommend that you check the above resources on a regular basis and/or speak to the airline you plan to use before flying. GSU is offering free saliva-based testing to all students, faculty and staff at the downtown campus and perimeter campuses: https://ahead.gsu.edu/covid-19-resources/. You may take a test before returning to campus for spring classes.
