- U.S. Tax Season - Update: Deadline to File Federal Tax Forms extended to Monday, May 17th, 2021

Spring is tax season in the U.S. based on tax year 2020 (January 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020). If you initially arrived in the US in 2021, there are no IRS requirements for you this year. All others have at least 1 tax form to complete.

ISSS recommends that you complete tax forms as soon as possible even though the deadline is extended.

ISSS offers FREE tax preparation software called Sprintax. It is a safe, secure, online software designed specifically for international students and scholars. ISSS advises you to ONLY use Sprintax. Sprintax is available now to use. Please start by reviewing the ISSS Tax Information page on our website >> HERE <<

ALERT: Tax Season is also Fraud Season

  • ISSS has received reports of unknown individuals pretending to be IRS agents who try to collect tax payments via calls or emails. THIS IS A SCAM!

  • If you receive such contact, ignore it or ask ISSS first. For more details, please watch this short VIDEO about tax fraud and let your friends know.

Free COVID Testing

COVID Testing on Campuses

Take advantage of free COVID-19 PCR tests available to all faculty, staff, and students at all campuses. COVID-19 tests are now also provided within each Atlanta campus residence hall on a rotating schedule. Testing location details and full information are available online.

Important Travel Signature Reminder

Remember to have your form I-20 or DS-2019 signed before you depart the U.S during any break if your current travel endorsement is more than 6 months old. Your I-20 will be digitally endorsed and emailed to your GSU student email. Note also that there are still international travel restrictions in place to consider traveling.

For details on this requirement and request travel endorsement, please click HERE.

Tip: Don’t wait until the last minute!

All requests in iStart take 3-5 days to process.

COVID TESTING REQUIRED BEFORE BOARDING FLIGHTS TO U.S.

On January 12, 2021, CDC announced an Order requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight.

Please take this new rule and the availability of testing at your travel destination into account as you make travel plans.

It is very important to continue monitoring the CDC website, U.S. Department of State’s travel advisories, the ISSS website, and Georgia State Ahead for up-to-date information regarding travel to the U.S. and campus. Some countries have restrictions on entry and a negative COVID test is now required to enter the US. We highly recommend that you check the above resources on a regular basis and/or speak to the airline you plan to use before flying. GSU is offering free saliva-based testing to all students, faculty and staff at the downtown campus and perimeter campuses: https://ahead.gsu.edu/covid-19-resources/. You may take a test before returning to campus after travel.
