Birthday treats
Following last week’s newsletter about our commitment to being a Healthy School and our approach to birthday treats, we’ve had a few families ask for more ideas for alternatives to sweets and chocolate. Thank you for supporting us with this — we really appreciate your help in promoting healthy habits for all children.
If your child would still like to share something with their class to celebrate their birthday, here are some non-food and healthier celebration ideas that children really enjoy:
Non-food ideas
Stickers or sticker sheets
Colouring sheets or small activity packs
Pencils, erasers, or fun stationery
Bookmarks
Small bubbles
Temporary tattoos
Mini puzzle sheets or word searches
Healthier food ideas (if you prefer to bring something edible)
Fresh fruit kebabs or portions (e.g. satsumas, apple slices, grapes in small bags)
Raisin boxes or dried fruit snack packs
Plain popcorn (individually portioned)
Some families may want to choose a non-treat option, such as donating a book to the class or selecting a small game for wet playtime, which can be a lovely way to mark the occasion.
Thank you again for helping us support a healthy environment for all our pupils while still making birthdays feel special and celebrated.
Sporty bits with Jade
A big congratulations to our Year 6 boys, who won the first round of the Federation tournament! They played against Brunswick Park, Tudor and Manorside in a 5-a-side tournament last Friday, winning every game and bringing home the federation trophy for the week.
Good luck to our Year 6 girls, who are playing in the second round of the tournament this afternoon. We can’t wait to see which school will keep the trophy at the end of all the rounds!
Well done as well to the children who represented Church Hill in the last two tennis tournaments. Last week, Amelie, Violet, Leonardo and Oliver competed in the Year 5 and 6 event and were incredible. A big shout-out as well to Boglarka and Maira in Year 3, and Billy and Raffaelo in Year 4, who made it to the quarter-finals of the Year 3 and 4 tournament, demonstrating great skill and enthusiasm throughout.
Finally, we had the Barnet sitting volleyball event this week, where six Year 4 children enjoyed trying a new sport and gave it their all, making it a fun and memorable morning.

Head bumps and first aid
We are writing to let you know that we are planning to change our Head Bump procedures. Previously, we would call parents/carers regarding any head bump, however minor, just to ensure that parents/carers were aware.
Whilst we very much appreciate the potentially serious consequences of a head bump, we believe that we can inform you of low-risk head bumps by Teachers 2 Parents text notification. Our new procedures are as follows:
Low-risk head bump - no wound/lump, child presenting as well and coherent.
Action: First aid administered if required, generic Teachers 2 Parent text sent to say that child bumped head at school today.
Medium-risk head bump – possible wound/lump, child presenting as well and coherent.
Action: First aid administered, family telephoned to advise of injury and discuss option to collect.
Serious head bump - wound/lump, child presenting as incoherent, sleepy, vomiting, etc.
Action: First aid administered, call to parent to inform if an ambulance has been called/needed or child taken to A&E if appropriate.
Friday 22nd May 2026
In celebration of the start of FIFA World Cup 2026, students are invited to wear football kits or wear clothing which represent the colours of the country they are supporting in the World Cup.
No donations are necessary for this special non-uniform day.
Please can you remind children to bring a bottle for the tombola
Trips, visitors and workshops
As families are aware, we are committed to enhancing children’s learning experiences through a wide range of class trips, visitors, and workshops. These opportunities play an important role in bringing learning to life and enriching the curriculum.
While the school office will hold details of the dates and times of these events, the arrangements are made by class teachers. If you have any questions or would like further information about a specific trip or activity, please speak directly with your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to help.
The countdown is on!!
Get ready for some fun as the Summer Fair is back!!
Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of vibrant activities, music, stalls and fantastic food.
More details to follow in the coming weeks leading up to the fair.
Support Our Summer Fair with Hunters Boards
We’re delighted to share that Hunters Estate Agents (Russell Lane office) have kindly agreed to sponsor our Summer Fair!
They will donate £15 for every household that agrees to have a Hunters Estate Agents advertising board displayed outside their property in the lead-up to the fair.
Hunters Estate Agents will handle all installation and removal, so there’s little to no effort required from you — just sign up and provide your address.
If you’re happy to take part, please email churchhillschoolassociation@gmail.com with your address and any additional information (for example, if you have a preferred location for the board).
Please note that in some cases installation may involve drilling, so if you have any specific instructions on where the board should be placed, do include this in your email.
We only need around 50 participants, so please do sign up if you’re able to support.
Thank you for your support!
With only 3 weeks to go until half term holidays, we wanted to inform that we have accumulated a large amount of lost property this term. All items will be displayed on tables outside the school office, in the last week before half term. Please come by and check for any of your child’s misplaced belongings. Any items remaining after Friday 22nd May will be donated or disposed of.
As technology continues to play a big role in children’s lives, helping them stay safe online is more important than ever. Many popular apps, games and websites used by young people can change quickly, and it can sometimes be difficult for parents and carers to keep up.
We encourage all families to take an active interest in their child’s online world. Simple steps such as talking regularly about what they are doing online, setting clear boundaries, and using parental controls can make a big difference in keeping children safe.
For additional support, we recommend visiting the Kids Online World website. This is a helpful resource for parents and carers, offering:
Up-to-date information on popular apps, games and social media platforms used by children
Guidance on potential risks and how to manage them
Explanations of current slang and online language, helping you better understand how young people communicate online
By staying informed and maintaining open conversations at home, we can work together to ensure children enjoy the benefits of the online world safely and responsibly.

We are extremely excited and proud to share some wonderful news with our Church Hill community!
We have recently received a letter of congratulations from our local MP, Dan Tomlinson, recognising our achievement in being awarded the School Games Mark last year.
This award reflects our continued commitment to promoting physical activity, wellbeing, and inclusive sporting opportunities for all pupils. It is fantastic to see this effort acknowledged at a wider level, and we are incredibly proud of all the children, staff, and families who contribute to making sport and activity such a positive part of life at Church Hill.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Jade, who leads sport at Church Hill, and to the wider sports team, led by Mr Reisman, for their dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work in providing such rich sporting opportunities for our pupils.
Thank you for your ongoing support — this achievement truly belongs to our whole school community!!
