Welcome to the Nebraska stop of Write Across America! Since 2018, our tourism motto has been "Honestly, it's not for everyone," but we're here to show you why Nebraska IS for you.

Facts you may not know about Nebraska:
The name Nebraska comes from indigenous words meaning "flat water." It refers to the Platte River which winds across the state.
Nebraska's largest city, Omaha, is named after the U-Mo'n-Ho'n Tribe and means "treading against the current or wind."
We are known for being the origin of the reuben sandwich, Arbor Day, and Kool Aid.
500,000 sandhill cranes migrate through central Nebraska every year.
The 911 system originated in Nebraska.
Nebraska's Ogallala Aquifer is the largest aquifer in the United States.
The top industries in Nebraska are insurance, manufacturing, agriculture, and service.
Nebraska is home to seven Fortune 500 companies.

We chose these categories based on the major ecosystems of Nebraska. Under each geographical category, we have subcategories of:

and Story
Of course, we also needed to show off just a few of our fantastic writers to showcase the diverse experiences of the people of Nebraska
Each person will enter a breakout room that will be your digital home for the duration of the writing marathon.
We will do two rounds of writing - 35 minutes each, with 25-30 minutes of exploring and writing and 5-10 minutes of sharing. (Your breakout room can decide).
With 5 minutes remaining, we will return to the main room for closing remarks and procedures.
