We respectfully acknowledges the territory in which we gather as the ancestral homelands of the Wolastoqey, Mi’gmaw and Peskotomuhkati peoples
It is said that moon magic is historically, culturally or religiously tied to the belief that working with different phases of the moon in a ritual can transform one’s life; manifest your desires and banish your challenges. Moon rituals, ceremonies or “circles” are most often done on the Full and New Moons as these are the most powerful moons. According to my friends Renata and Marina Perilli of Prairie & Moon “Full Moons are a time for release, letting go of what’s holding us back and New Moons are for new beginnings, and manifesting what it is we desire.”
High Moon Magazine asked Prairie & Moon why you should tap into the moon, here is what they said:
“Circling is about tuning in to how we are feeling and what’s going on in our lives and how it correlates with the phases of the moon and the astrological signs the moon is in. As the moon cycles through its phases and the zodiac signs, different themes arise in our lives.”

Prior to your witchy moon ritual (about 1 hour) you may want to consider a healing, cleansing bath to help relax you. Incorporating cannabis into your ritual and into your bath can also “aid in tapping into yourself, your intuition, Source, God, Spirit… It can help you access your subconscious mind, relax you and allow for open channels by allowing us to more openly step out of the rational mind and into the liminal.” said Prairie & Moon.

Set an Intention for the Ritual
It is important to set an intention for your ceremony. What do you hope to achieve out of your ritual? Overall peace and calmness? Direction for the month ahead?
Be clear and specific
Write it in your journal
Say it out loud!
Cleanse Your Space
On the New Moon we open wide the front door to let new beginnings in (it’s the opposite on the Full Moon- open your back door to let out what’s blocking you)! Smudging or cleansing with herbs or medicines and smoke is an ancient tradition of North American Indigenious cultures (as well as many others). It is a simple yet powerful way to protect your space from negative vibes! Sage is commonly used as a cleansing herb because it is believed to protect one from negativity and more importantly welcome positive energies into your space.
Open the front door
Place your herb or incense in a fireproof container
Light the end with wooden matches or hemp wick
Use a feather or your hand to gently fan the herb and the flame, allow it to burn out naturally
Move through your home or space in a clockwise direction, gently waft the smoke with the feather or your hand into each corner of the room
As you move through the space do so with intention, say a prayer or mantra and/or give thanks to the Creator/God/The Universe (however you see it)
how to extinguish:
If you’re using a smudge stick, safely extinguish it in a bowl of sand.
If you’re using loose herbs, let them burn out completely on their own.
If you’re using incense you can let it burn out or safely extinguish
you can place the smoking bowl or incense on your altar during your moon ceremony to enjoy the smell and influence
Meditate
Journal
Take some time now with your journal to reflect on your meditation. Journal freely, or use the prompts below to guide you!
Journal Prompts
What dreams and goals have you already achieved and received? Try to list 10!
Imagine you are planting 4 seeds (intentions) that will grow and bloom in the next month. What will you plant?
Write a welcome letter to all of your dreams and manifestations.
Keep these in your journal to reflect back on in the future. Set a “harvest date” to review your intentions next month, next quarter or next year!
5. Plant Your Seeds and Intentions
Now it is time to physically or symbolically plant the seeds of your manifestations for the coming weeks or months. And some may think it is strange to refer to planting seeds in October; however, there are many plants that are seeded or planted as bulbs in the fall. Hollyhocks, are one for example that drop their seeds in the fall.
Fill your pots with soil or your bowl with water
Take your paper and cut out 4 pieces (for your intentions)
Take your 4 intentions or seeds you journaled about earlier and write each one on a piece of paper
If also planting, prepare your seeds and soil
Read each intention out loud
Bury your seeds/intentions
If you're using water dip each paper into the bowl until saturated
After the ceremony you can discard the paper- save the water to water your houseplants!
If planting seeds fold the paper up and bury it in the soil of your pot(s)
Let your seeds blossom into your dreams!
6. Give Thanks
It’s important to close your moon ceremony by giving thanks.
Take out your journal and write 3-5 things you are grateful for this month
Use the phrase “I am grateful for____________ because ___________”
The New Moon in October is in Scorpio, bringing the need to delve deep into our emotions. We will desire meaningful connections. Now is the time to share how you've really been feeling, creating space for open and honest conversations. Remember that new moons are a time for manifesting - what is it you want to bring into your life through these conversations? Honour your body during this time - sleep when you need to, even if it's out of your normal schedule. In order to really feel what is coming up for you, ensure you are allowing yourself space to be in the emotion - cry if you need to, scream/shout from a cliff edge, laugh until your belly aches, or simply sit in silence.
Marina & Renata are the two sisters who make up Prairie & Moon. Marina is a connector - of places, times, and most importantly people; Renata is the eternal student and teacher. Together, they facilitate moon circles and workshops dedicated to empower individuals to find their inner Wild Wo|Mxn. What is a Wild Wo|Mxn? It's a combination of men, women, womxn, mxn, and everyone in between. A Wild Wo|Mxn has peeled back their layers to embrace their most authentic selves. Born of nature and ambition, we aim to discover what fuels each of our deepest passions, and help ease the transition to embodying our authentic selves in modern society. One of the most important things for us is our community - because of this we have built the Miracle Fund where customers have the option to donate money towards others' attendance and we have different price options available for all of our events so that those from any background can attend without financial stress impacting their healing journey's.
