How to Apply
28 participants will be selected to attend the workshop.
To be eligible to apply for a NEH-funded Institute, you must be:
a United States citizen, teaching in the U.S. or abroad at U.S. chartered institutions operated by the federal government;
a resident of U.S. jurisdictions;
or a foreign national who has been residing in the United States or its jurisdictions for at least the three years immediately preceding the application deadline
You are not eligible to apply if you:
are a foreign national teaching abroad;
are related to the project directors;
are affiliated with Northeastern University;
have been taught or advised in an academic capacity by the project directors;
are delinquent in the repayment of federal debt (taxes, student loans, child support payments, and delinquent payroll taxes for household or other employees);
have been debarred or suspended by any federal department or agency;
have attended a previous NEH professional development project (Seminars, Landmarks, or Institutes) led by the project directors.
Endowment programs do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or age. We encourage applications from advanced graduate students, early-career scholars, adjuncts, community college or regional university professors, and other underfunded faculty across the United States.
Every participant will be provided with a $1,300 stipend (taxable as income) after the end of the program to help cover travel, lodging, and meals. Single rooms in Northeastern housing will be available at a discounted price. There is no registration fee.
Apply to NEWLAMP by emailing the following to NEWLAMP2024@gmail.com, by March 5, 2024 (11:59pm ET):
I. A short statement of interest in NEWLAMP (2-page max); please include in your statement your reasons for wanting to participate in NEWLAMP 2024, the number of moral, social, and/or political philosophy courses you usually teach every year, the levels of those courses, and the standard class size of each;
II. A curriculum vitae; and
III. A Brief Teaching Portfolio including: at least two sample syllabi (preferably in moral, social, and/or political philosophy) and at least one sample class assignment.
Compile all the elements in a single PDF with your First Name_Last Name in the document title (e.g., Leanne_Simpson.pdf) and submit it with the email title “2024 Institute Submission.”

Notifications will be sent out April 5, 2024. Accepted applicants will have until April 19, 2024, to accept or decline the offer to participate in the Institute. Waitlisted applicants will then be contacted.
