For more than 16 years, I have continued to develop and update the New Haven Railroad TOFC Clinic originally developed in 2009 and presented at the NMRA Convention that year. This clinic covers the history of New Haven Railroad Trailer on Flat Car (TOFC) Operations from 1937-1968 and is currently divided into three parts (all contained here).
Part I consists of a brief pre-history of events preceding New Haven Railroad TOFC service followed by a look at New Haven equipment including rolling stock and vehicles as well as New Haven TOFC operations and facilities from 1937 to 1968.
Part II discusses modeling information on rolling stock and vehicles in HO and N scales. Rolling stock from 1937-1968 is reviewed while vehicle modeling focuses on 1940-1960.
Part III provides information on various motor carriers that shipped trailers on the New Haven Railroad. Contents include motor carrier histories, revenue, ICC registration, service route and vehicles. This section is a new addition to the clinic, and is very much still in development. Information is currently presented on 21 motor carriers.
Because of the enormous size, I am currently presenting this clinic in three separate parts, variously at the NHRHTA Annual Reunion and the annual NERPM meet. In 2025 I will be introducing Part III at the NERPM meet, while Part II is scheduled for the NHRHTA Reunion.
