About Us
Newcastle Gang Show is a family variety show featuring Scouts and Guides from across the City of Newcastle and members further afield from Northumberland Scout County. The aim of the show is to give young people the opportunity to develop theatre skills and perform on a professional stage, in front of a live audience. For some this is a one in a life time opportunity helping to build confidence, make new friends and have fun.
The 100 plus average cast is made up of young people who are members of the Scouting and Guiding who perform a wide mix of song, dance and comedy sketches for the local community to enjoy. Our modern Gang Shows include a wide range of music, from entry's in the charts today to Ralph Reader's traditional songs.
Many of the young people who take part in the show step onto the stage for the very first time, with the annual show giving them the chance to experience the performing arts in a fun and friendly way. Behind the curtain an army of dedicated volunteers make sure the show can happen with adults giving their time in a range of roles such as production, set build, costumes, makeup, lighting, sound and more.
The primary aim of the event is to allow young people to develop stage and performance skills, confidence and self-esteem. The show is not intended to make a profit, which may sound strange in today’s financial climate, but volunteers give time for free simply to see the youngsters grow, develop and take part in something they have never done before. The show not only stars young people, but it’s also put together by them with young producers and choreographers taking the lead and bringing in fresh ideas.
If you're a member of Scouting or Guiding you can take part in the show each January when rehearsals start. We're also always looking for people to get involved in the show, both on stage and off stage. We need stage crew, marshals, dressers, administrators, marketing, finance and many more roles to help make the show happen.
