Artistic Director
New Works Writers Series (New Works) is a not-for-profit (501c 3) organization founded in December 1989 by Imelda Hunt to provide an arena for showcasing local writers, poets, musicians and actors. New Works produces and conducts workshops, ethnic plays and seminars.
New Works has produced over 50 plays, historical publications, open poetry forums, and musical performances since its inception. It has showcased numerous new talents, which have gone on to be prominent in their communities and successful in their careers. This concept has been well received, in that it produces a forum for many who would never get a chance to excel in their gifts.
New Works also established the annual Northwest Ohio Poetry Slam in 1999 that has attracted more than fifty poets and audiences of over two hundred spectators to the slam. Nationally known published spoken word poets such as Sonia Sanchez, Jessica Care Moore, and Khari Kimani Turner have been guests and readers of events sponsored by New Works Writers Series. New Works have received funding in the past from the Ohio Humanities Council, Arts Commission of Greater Toledo, Toledo Museum of Art, and ECAP of BGSU, and Toledo Blade to name a few.

YOUR SUPPORT
On behalf of the New Works Writers Series, I am reaching out to introduce our organization as a dedicated partner in theatrical production and a unique hub for professional talent cultivation. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, we specialize in a dual mission: bringing both classical works and innovative new plays to the stage, while actively developing the next generation of theater professionals.
What sets our series apart is our focus on community-driven excellence. We identify individuals with a deep-seated passion for the arts and provide them with the rigorous training necessary to hone their interests into quality-trained acting techniques and theories. Our roster includes:
Emerging & Established On-Stage Talent: Actors trained in foundational and advanced techniques, bridging the gap between community passion and professional-grade performance.
Off-Stage Technical Experts: A community of set designers, lighting directors, and sound engineers who are mentored in the technical theories of modern production.
Creative Visionaries: Directors and playwrights working at the intersection of timeless classical structures and contemporary storytelling.
We believe that high-quality theater is built on a foundation of continuous learning. By collaborating with us, you are not only accessing a professional production team but also supporting a pipeline of talent dedicated to mastering the craft.
I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how our unique approach to talent development and production can support your business objectives. My contact information is included below:
