Fort Bassein, also known as the Vasai Fort or Fort Baçaim (Marathi: वसई चा किल्ला), is a large fort in the town of Vasai in the Palghar district of Maharashtra state in the Konkan division in India. The name "Bassein" is the English version of the Portuguese "Baçaim" (with the "ç" spoken as "s" and with the "m" silent), itself a version of an apparently native name that may have a connection to the Vasa Konkani[1] tribals of the North Konkan region, extending from Mumbai into "South Gujarat". The Marathi name of the place is Vasai.

Review :
- Very interesting fort to watch,This place has got an amazing history, Lovely. The fort was lovely, great views from the higher floors. Now, there was a solitary sweeper, brushing the sands of time. You could also walk through the nearby fishing village with its colorful houses, if you so wish.
- The first is nice. In the morning it is very peaceful. The structure is quite good. There is a church behind it. The surrounding is adventurous.
- Reached early in the morning, which allowed us to catch the sight of the fishermen unloading their goods. Lovely. The fort was lovely, great views from the higher floors. If you use your imagination, you could imagine the large central courtyards filled with nobility. Now, there was a solitary sweeper, brushing the sands of time. You could also walk through the nearby fishing village with its colourful houses, if you so wish.
- Very interesting fort to watch.. Gates, temple, Defence walls are awesome, there are also some halls to see (may be meeting hall at that time). Surrounding area of cover with trees🌴. Great architecture. ️
- Nice fort. You can reach this place by public transport bus provided from vasai station. After rainy season the place was quite cool n green. Keep it clean.
- It is a lovely place to visit and has a lot of history but no maintenance. The fort is in ruins with no proper maintenance. People were running all around and over it. There were no paths into the fort and the ground was soggy and slippery from the rains.
- Vasai fort is a wonderful place to visit. This place has got an amazing history. The fort could have been a little better preserved, but i think ASI is doing a good of maintaining it.
- Forts is also known as Bassein fort which had a great history of Portuguese, Maratha and The British East India Company. Once a strategic place on the Western coast of India, this fort has now mostly turned into ruins, although there are enough standing walls to give a good idea of the floor plans of these structures.Vasai Fort has also been used as a set for a number of Bollywood movies. Best place for photography. Nice scenery you will get to see. Not good for young kids as you will find various couples everywhere. One can reach there by taking bus from bus depot from Vasai West Railway Station which run every half an hour.
- Remnants of the Portuguese fort complex, this fort shows amazing architectural details of the past. A great way to study the planning and some of the detailing from the dilapidated remnants. This is a popular tourist attraction for a weekend outing. Many films and songs have been shot here. Would love to see this fort conserved and restored to fully appreciate its beauty and grandeur.
