5 reasons why you should travel:
Networking: Meeting and interacting with other people that might have a different idea than you or maybe a different mindset or even from a different country with a different culture, and by that could add or exchange value to your life somehow. While travelling I've met people who had my dream job or that they do something I'd love to be doing but, in my mind, it was impossible, and if other people can do it, you can do it as well!
Language: While traveling you can definitely meet people from other countries as I mentioned above and by doing so you can have some language exchange. When I meet someone who speaks a different language than mine I try to learn and teach some simple things like how to greet, or things we can use on our daily routine.
Open your mind: by meeting people from other cultures and different ideas you're going to open your mind to new things and see the world from other perspectives as well and not only what you grew up with your whole life around your hometown with the same people, values and ideas.
Life experiences: Let me ask you something, when was the last time you did something for the first time? Hard to remember right?
It is hard to remember because we are so used to being in our comfort zone and doing the same things every day through our routine. So, when you travel, you’re putting yourself in something different than your comfort zone and that feels great, we never know what could happen and what we could experience but I’ll tell you, at the end this is a great feeling.
Last but not least, FOOD: During my whole life I haven't met someone who doesn't like food, I love it and it's great to try food from locals and from different cultures than ours, food that we're not used to it, trying the new.
I would like to share with you about biking along Charles River in Autumn Boston, MA, USA.
As a foreigner and stay in Boston only for a few years, I didn’t bring a bicycle when I moved to Boston three years ago. With busy life here always, I didn’t buy it along these years.
The thought of riding bike along the neighboring scenery Charles River is always in my mind especially when I passed by and saw the renting bike station…
After besieged at home for a few months because of Covid-19, I have suffered from health problems. So, I was forced to decide to leave home and go out to exercise so to save my health.
One weekend on mid-September this year, I emboldened, asked a colleague to accompany and went to a bike station, spent some time to download the Blue bike’s App and figure out how to register, with her help, I unlock a bike and rode towards Charles River!
It was a sunny day afternoon; we started the route from the Esplanade, passed Hatch Shell and kept riding for half an hour.
Along the trail, I could always see the river on my right hand side. Above the water, there are small yachts; racing boats and sailing boats together with wild birds and ducks. It is so beautiful and the weather was just right that a lot of people sit on the benches or under the trees. Friends, lovers, parents and their children are on the lawn, runners and bikers on the trail, and they all enjoyed September dusk.
We passed the MIT Doom, some bridges, a lot of buildings on my right hand side and Boston University buildings on my left side. The traffic was busy too, with a lot of vehicles passed by. But there is bike trail so it was very safe. (Except I needed to dodge peoples sometime)
I was very exciting and wanted to ride more but my colleague was tired so I was reluctant to stop, returned the bike and walked home.
I think that I am so lucky to have the bike station and the Charles River nearby that I can rent a bike and ride to. I will ride more before Boston harsh winter comes!
Touring Peru through its food
Hi, I’m Mayra. I live in Boston but I lived most of my life in Lima, Peru. During that time I was lucky enough to visit some beautiful cities in Peru and taste some of the most delicious foods in the world..if not the best!
In the last couple of years, Peru has been recognized as one of the best culinary destinations around the world. Unfortunately not many people have had the chance to go to Peru and explore Peruvian traditional food. But don’t worry! Through this blog I’ll try to show you where and what to try if you have the opportunity to visit Peru, of course after this pandemic is over, safety first!
Let's begin our Peruvian cuisine tour!
Let’s start with one of the best known dishes, Ceviche! The Ceviche is considered the best Peruvian food around the world. This classic Peruvian dish is made of chunks of raw fish, marinated in lime juice, with sliced onions, chili peppers, salt and pepper accompanied by sweet potatoes and corn, seaweed and sometimes with yucca. Some people will say “raw fish” but this dish is fresh and acidic, with a spicy kick, once you try it you would not stop eating. A plus for this dish is that it is really healthy, all the ingredients that are used to elaborate this dish are fresh, no preservatives and it is definitely a low calorie meal! I leave you this photo...only looking at it makes me want to eat it now!
A trip to Peru is not complete without trying ceviche, so if you are lucky enough to visit my beautiful homeland be sure to try it while you are there. Here my top 3 restaurants to eat ceviche in Lima, Peru
La Mar Cebichería
El Muelle
Chez Wong
Now...Look at this picture, What is this?!
This dish is called Lomo Saltado.
Before telling you what this delicious dish is made of, I think I have to explain to you a little bit about Chifa, a part of Peruvian cuisine. What is Chifa? Chifa is a popular Peruvian cuisine that combines local and Chinese ingredients and techniques. The most popular chifa dish is lomo saltado.
This dish combines marinated strips of tender and juicy sirloin with onions, tomatoes, french fries and it is served with white rice. Yummy! This is one of my kids' favorite one. You should try cit, I’m sure your family will love it! As usual I leave you my top 3 restaurants where you can eat the best lomo saltado in Lima, Peru.

If you are looking for something to keep you warm..let’s talk about the Chupe de Camarones
Chupe de Camarones is kind of a high in proteins creamy soup but better because it’s creamy seafood with prawns as the main ingredient. Some of the ingredients of this dish include:
prawns, cumin, tomatoes, broad beans, corn, garlic, onions, cream, and a poached egg. It is not only delicious but so aromatic.
Top 3 restaurants
Francesco
La Estrellita del Sur
Rinconcito de Tiabaya
I didn’t forget the picture..here it is! Look at those colors, I can even smell it!!
It’s the turn for ….Anticuchos! To eat delicious food in Peru you don’t need to spend a lot of money. The proof is in the pudding with the Peruvian anticucho. Anticuchos are popular and inexpensive meat dishes that originated in the Andes. These skewered meat kebabs can be found on street-carts and street food stalls. Anticuchos are made of beef heart, which is really cheap. You have to cook the anticuchos on skewers on a charcoal grill. Anticuchos often come with a boiled potato and corn.

And that's it ….for today…. There is so much delicious Peruvian food but I’m not going to tell you all about it in one article. However, I will tell you that you don't have to go to Peru to try some of these dishes. While you wait for my next post you can try some of it here in Boston! Two of my favorite restaurants are: El rincon Limeno y Machu Picchu . I dare you to try it and come back and comment. You won’t regret it and after you try it you would want to go to Peru.
‘Til my next post.
