sidenote: I stopped watching FTWD after Season 4 Episode 3, therefore Nick is heavily headcanon based after the season 3 final. 

Anything based outside the show in modern setting falls under this verse. Also I'll write Nick as being clean within this verse. If you still want him actively using, then please discuss this with me beforehand. (but I reserve the right to decline)

Depending on the fandom/plot, the Clarks may have moved away from L.A. to give Nick a chance not to relapse with the change of scenery.

One night out at a full moon Nick got bitten without really knowing what had attacked him that night in the middle of Los Angeles, a place you wouldn’t exactly expect a werewolf. Nick survived the bite and was forced to leave the city in order to keep his family and himself save once he learned hunters were after new turned wolves. 

Alternatevily he could also have gotten turned into a vampire or witchcraft awoke within him which he didn't know existed in his bloodline or he's simply a ghost.

Nick had been in rehab and was taken to vault 95 alongside other patients at the 23rd of October 2077 when all vaults were sealed off at the start of the Great War. The vault functioned as a rehabilitation facility for people suffering from chem addiction. The perfect place for people like Nick. For five years there was a program all patients had to follow until an incident happened at the 23rd October 2082. A hidden stash of drugs was purposely opened and unfolded chaos and violence among the patients. It ultimately ended in the vault been taken over by gunners and became a base of operations for them in 2287. It's said that none of the previous vault residents survived, but it's unknown if it's the truth.

Part of the unsuccessful Tyrrish Rebellion Nick's parents were executed right in front of his and Alicia's eyes before the two were branded with the rebellion relic. Then Nick was separated from his sister as they were given in the care of foster families. When Nick turned twenty he, like all other marked ones before and after him, joined the Riders Quadrant at Basgiath War College.

After a successful rehab it's adviced he makes some good expierences and due to him being good with kids, he applied for that job.
