FAQ
We're four working moms in Durham, North Carolina, with eight beautiful children among us, who believe that abortion is healthcare, and that decisions about our reproductive health should be between us and our physicians.
In the horrific fallout from the reversal of Roe v. Wade, North Carolina is a sanctuary for millions in neighboring states who have been stranded, now lacking access to care and abruptly stripped of the agency to make decisions about their personal health. Republicans are now organizing to eliminate this critical access in our state.
As moms, we have created Never and Now as a way to focus our (ever stretched and limited) time and resources to make the biggest impact and keep abortion legal in North Carolina. We hope to do our part to protect our families' futures, and the futures that belong to the next generation–while still making it to early morning conference calls, daycare pickup, and soccer practice on time.
In January 2023, Republicans in the North Carolina General Assembly will pass legislation that would make abortion illegal in North Carolina. Whether this restrictive legislation becomes law depends on whether the Republicans hold enough Senate seats – 30 – to override Governor Cooper’s veto. They currently have 28.
The goal of Never and Now is to elect enough pro-choice legislators in the North Carolina State Senate in November 2022 to sustain Governor Cooper’s veto power and keep abortion legal in North Carolina. Every seat counts.
By raising funds and awareness for 5 female pro-choice candidates for North Carolina State Senate through person-to-person outreach and making political involvement approachable and fun. We know our networks - and their ripple effects - are eager to have a specific, tangible goal in the fight to defend reproductive rights.

This can be door-knocking, text or phone banking, and more. See the resources page of our website or visit the individual candidate websites to learn more. Our goal is to raise as much money as we can by September 30th, when we'll transition to get out the vote plans.
Carolina Forward is a non-profit, grassroots progressive policy organization that advocates for a stronger North Carolina that works for all its people. Never and Now is grateful to Carolina Forward for partnering with us to provide a candidate slate that supports our specific goal of defending reproductive rights in North Carolina.
Green is the internationally recognized color of the reproductive rights movement. Pro-abortion activists in Argentina originally wore green bandanas to protest anti-abortion laws, and when Argentina legalized abortion in December 2020, the symbol became known as the "marea verde" - the "green wave."
Activists in the United States have since adopted this symbol of resistance, and green hats, ribbons, bandanas, shirts, posters and more could be spotted at protests across the country in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs decision.
We proudly chose green for our Never & Now logo to honor the legacy of those who have fought before us and those who continue the fight here in our home country and home state.
We are NEVER going back. We must act NOW.
