Effective date: 30 June 2026
MatheX (“MatheX,” “the platform,” “the app,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a math learning platform for elementary school students. MatheX includes a student app for practicing math and a teacher app for creating classes, assigning homework, and viewing student progress.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we process, how we use it, and what choices students, parents, guardians, teachers, and schools have.
The data controller for MatheX is:
Stefan Neuber
Stahnsdorfer Str. 140A
14482 Potsdam
Germany
Email: neuberapps@gmail.com
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or about personal data processed by MatheX, you can contact us at the email address above.
If MatheX is used as part of a school or classroom, the teacher or school may also be responsible for deciding how the app is used in that educational context.
MatheX collects only the information needed to provide the math learning experience, personalize exercises, and allow teachers to manage classes and view student progress.
Students do not need to provide an email address, phone number, postal address, or payment information. Students choose a nickname or name inside the app. This may be a freely chosen nickname, but it can still be personal data if it identifies the student or is linked to their class and learning progress.
MatheX does not sell personal data. MatheX does not show third-party ads. MatheX does not use student data for tracking or targeted advertising.
This Privacy Policy covers both:
the MatheX student app, used by students to solve math problems; and
the MatheX teacher app, used by teachers to create classes, assign homework, and view student progress.
Both apps may use the same backend database so that students can join teacher-created classes and teachers can see the learning progress of students in their class.
When a student uses MatheX, we may process the following information:
nickname or name chosen by the student
generated user/profile identifier
class code or class membership, if the student joins a class
math problem type
exact math problem shown to the student
answer submitted by the student
whether the answer was correct or incorrect
time needed to answer the problem
date and time of the practice activity
homework status and completion information
progress, performance, and learning history
app settings and similar information needed for the learning experience
This information is used to personalize the exercises, adapt difficulty, show progress, and provide teacher features when the student joins a class.
When a teacher uses MatheX, we may process the following information:
class name entered by the teacher
generated class identifier or class code
homework or assignments created by the teacher
class membership information
student nicknames/names of students who joined the class
student progress, answers, timing, homework completion, and performance data for students in the class
teacher app settings and app interactions needed to operate the class features
Teachers should not enter unnecessary personal information into class names, homework descriptions, or other free-text fields.
The student app may allow students to answer math problems by speaking.
Based on the current design, speech recognition happens on the device. MatheX does not store audio recordings and does not send audio recordings to our backend database. If a student submits an answer using speech, the recognized answer may be stored in the same way as a typed answer.
If a future version sends audio recordings or transcripts to a server or third-party service, this Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly.
MatheX uses Firebase, a service provided by Google, as a cloud database to store and sync app data required for the student and teacher features.
Firebase may process technical information needed to provide the database service, maintain security, prevent abuse, and operate the infrastructure.
At the date of this Privacy Policy, MatheX is designed not to use third-party advertising, third-party tracking, or Firebase Analytics for these apps.
We use information for the following purposes:
to provide math exercises to students
to personalize exercises and adapt difficulty
to store student progress
to allow students to join teacher-created classes
to allow teachers to create classes and assign homework
to allow teachers to view student progress and homework completion
to improve the educational experience
to maintain the security and reliability of the platform
to respond to support or deletion requests
to comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights
We may use aggregated or de-identified statistics to understand and improve MatheX, for example to understand which types of exercises are difficult for students. We do not use such statistics to identify individual students.
If a student joins a class using a class code, QR code, or link, the teacher who created that class can access the student’s learning data for that class.
This may include the student’s nickname or name, answered questions, submitted answers, timing, correctness, homework status, and progress.
Students should only join a class if they have been invited by their teacher, school, parent, or guardian. Teachers and schools are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary authority or consent to invite students to use MatheX in a classroom context.
MatheX is designed for elementary school students, so we take children’s privacy seriously.
Children should use MatheX only with permission from a parent, guardian, teacher, or school. Where required by law, the processing of a child’s personal data must be authorized by a parent, guardian, school, or another person or institution legally allowed to provide that authorization.
We do not knowingly collect email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, payment information, precise location, photos, videos, contacts, or advertising identifiers from students.
We do not use student data for targeted advertising, third-party advertising, tracking, or sale to data brokers.
If you believe that a child has used MatheX without appropriate permission, please contact us so we can review and, where appropriate, delete the relevant data.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar data protection laws, we rely on the following legal bases where applicable:
Performance of a contract: to provide the MatheX apps and their learning, class, homework, and progress features.
Consent or authorization: where required, especially for children using the app with parent, guardian, teacher, or school permission.
Legitimate interests: to maintain and improve the platform, keep it secure, prevent abuse, respond to support requests, and generate aggregated or de-identified statistics, provided that these interests are not overridden by the rights and interests of students and other users.
Legal obligations: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, or legal requests.
We use the following third-party service:
Firebase / Google: cloud database hosting, syncing, infrastructure, security, and related technical processing.
We do not use Firebase for advertising or tracking in these apps.
If additional third-party services are added in the future, this Privacy Policy will be updated.
We may share or make data available in the following limited cases:
with the teacher of a class, if a student joins that class;
with Firebase / Google, as our cloud database provider;
with service providers or technical support providers if necessary to operate, secure, or maintain MatheX;
if required by law, legal process, or to protect our rights and users;
in aggregated or de-identified form that does not identify individual students, teachers, or classes.
We do not sell student data. We do not share student data with advertising networks or data brokers.
Student profile, class, homework, and progress data may be stored as long as needed to provide MatheX, maintain class history, personalize learning, and allow teachers to view progress.
Data may be deleted upon request by a student, parent, guardian, teacher, or school, provided that we can reasonably identify and verify the relevant data. Because students do not create accounts using email addresses, deletion requests may require information such as the student nickname, class code, class name, teacher name, or other details needed to locate the correct profile.
If we cannot reasonably identify the relevant profile or class data, we may not be able to delete it.
We may retain limited information where required by law, needed for security, or necessary to resolve disputes.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data, including database access controls and secure transmission where supported by the underlying services.
However, no system is completely secure. Teachers and students should keep class codes private and should not share QR codes or class links with people who should not have access to the class.
Firebase / Google and other technical infrastructure providers may process data in countries outside your country of residence, including the United States. Where required by applicable law, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or equivalent legal mechanisms.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
request access to personal data
request correction of inaccurate data
request deletion of personal data
request restriction of processing
object to certain processing
request data portability
withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice in the app or by other appropriate means.
